Heatblur F-14 and Forrestal Update

They were still using AN/ALR-45 when you were slumming it with the Gypsies right? Everything I’ve read or listened to (I know, I know) from the crews stated the -45 was so unreliable and prone to false contacts that intentionally left if off unless they expected a threat. I’d be shocked if it was on, much less working right

My read of it is of the errors that can occur (the sensor getting damaged, shot off, misinterpreting a HAM radio as an SA-10 trying to kill you), stabilator induced error is relatively minor. However the displayed scenario has the emitter placed in a position to create the most spectacular demonstration of potential error caused by the stabilator.

Let’s get back to the real issue: will the mirrors provide the right amount of reflection clarity to observe the RIO doing stuff he’s not supposed to be doing.

Now we are asking the right questions!
That and… can I have a Female RIO?
The answer to that is the same to the question: Will Komemiute give up and buy the Tomcat?

No offense to Goose or Merlin, and all respect to Heatblur’s guy, but the definitive RIO of my childhood was this Gal:

JAG? Childhood?? Just how old ARE you??? :astonished:

You are OK with INOP RHAWR gear? I’m not flying in your back seat!

No, I don’t care about the signal appearing to move with stab position or not.

Especially as it seems most of these scenarios are academic anyway and have no bearing on the missions I’ve actually seen created for DCS or other flight sims. Sure, real world it matters, but not in the hyperrealistic environment of a combat flight sim.
Usually there are so many emitters and the situations so volatile all you have time for is “what’s the closest threat? did it fire yet? RUN!”

It’s not like anyone is making ELINT missions where you’re trying to establish an EOB with no one shooting at you. I guess we’d need an EF-111 or something first.

Slumming”??!! I’ll have you know that I was the first AI ever nominated for the coveted Wedge Award (for antics on liberty) :sunglasses:

Now that you mention it…there was something about microwave repeater towers…that said when we were off Lebanon, I’m pretty sure they usually had it on. But, yes, when flying around the Med, in general they probably had it off due to spurious hits.

In real life it can be a bit different. We had a Hornet Pilot that was about 6’2”. Callsign “Fish”. An acronym for “F###k, Is She Huge”. Another female aviator’s callsign was “Sumat”…another acronym…”Shut Up, Men Are Talking”…I never asked how she got that callsign.

Gwendolyn Christie, aka Brienne of Tarth in GoT and Cpt Phasma in the new Star Wars films, is 6’ 3". She likes to wear heels, too. Quite funny how she can tower over her costars.

That shot really happened that take. Unfortunately the director assumed she wouldn’t make it and framed it so they could change it later by having the ball leave and reenter the frame so it doesn’t show.
The outtakes shows Ron Perlman lose it immediately after the cut as he realizes she actually did it.

We can discuss who’s the better waifu all day long, but from a purely RIO perspective, all Mac did was fly in the back of a MiG-29 that got shot down anyways. Skates has multiple cruises in the back of a Tomcat under her belt.

In terms of F-14, Professional RIO > Jarhead lawyer.
