Camo looks fierce and intimidating alone. Means they’re not there for show, but to kick some ass!
Best thread ever!
It can’t be; we still don’t have the buff dudes for the Navy guys.

In the F-14 community it meant the exact opposite. The working jets were painted in either gull grey or TPS depending on the decade. The only time they were painted up in camouflage is if they were playing the bad guys, either as dedicated aggressors or when flying OPFOR during exercises.
VF-111 and VF-84 are always the big favorites.
I’m partial to VF-143
VF-114
VF-32
and VF-33
Thanks for reminding me…I was aboard STENNIS, in the Gulf of Alaska freezing my butt off at that time. But I did observe the 21 gun salute, which was a moving moment.
Per Navy regulation, every ship at sea, on the day of a President’s/Former President’s funeral, will, at 1200 local time, fire a 21 gun salute.
Oh I wouldn’t say that…
I’m the “Buff Dude” on the left.
While I must be loyal to my former squadron, the Swordsmen of VF-32, I always, secretly thought VF-143’s name–“The Pukin’ Dogs”–was awesome.
So did that squad name come before or after they got that tail logo?
(Actually looks more like a barfing cat to me)
They were supposed to be The Griffins or something, and they had that insignia drawn up: a winged lion upon a blue shield. Legend has it the new insignia was revealed to the entire squadron, when the CO’s wife exclaimed “That looks like a Pukin’ dog!” Griffins were instantly out, vomiting canines were in.
That most definately has the ring of authenticity to it
Man, replace those patches with Post office logos, I’d swear you worked with Cliff Calvin.
Hold my beer, lemme go look for old photos, and I’ll be back.
We were out to sea when he died, and in-port in Rio de Janeiro for his funeral. This was my CO, presenting the flag to Nancy:
And he’s climbing a stairway…to heaven…
To be fair, you never served on a ship of refugees after the apocalypse that wiped out all but a few thousand people.
There must be some latitude given for extreme circumstances.
That’s essentially the story I heard - a bit different venue but CO wife saying just that.
I’m reading off Wikipedia. I’d imagine if spouses were present it was more of a, social, gathering. However I clearly was not there!
True but they had former Detective Lieutenant Olmos…now Admiral Adama leading them.
Hmmm…He was a Cop that became an Admiral and President Rosln was also a Cop in another life…Commander Sharon Raydor of the LAPD…coincidence? I think not!
I heard (back in the mid 1980 when I was at NAS Oceana) that it was a change of command where the incoming CO’s wife made the comment. The essential elements are the same.
