On a slightly more serious note, this video does a pretty good job of showing why I disliked tanking Ospreys…

ummm. please explain it like i’m five, what should I have seen in that video that’s worse than a regular helicopter?
Well…the giant spinning blades of doom are vertical vs horizontal, and are quite wide. Wide enough in fact that you can only tank one osprey at a time, where as even big helos like the CH-53 you can tank two at a time. Why does this matter you may ask? Well, when in the basket those vertical giant spinning blades of doom over lap the Hercs tail. So all it would take is one over zealous, heavy handed, hamfisted Osprey pilot having a bad day and boom, no more rudder or elevators. Now a some what more likely scenario would be an Osprey jabbing too hard at the basket, missing, and the basket and hose ending up in the giant spinning blades of doom.
Pretty sure it’s NSFW…
Eep, I don’t like the sound of any of that!
The other day at work I almost spilled tea on my chinos. I feel like the near misses in my job are somewhat less hazardous than in the Osprey refueller’s gig. Then again, better views from the Herc office for sure
The props just seem so out of proportion to the rest of the plane. Kind of like someone took a 1/32 scale prop and put it on a 1/72 scale model for giggles.
I had an aerial encounter with 2 of those a week or so ago and the throbbing noise they make as they pass is unearthly. They are fricking awesome machines.
I’d still rather have a chinook or a Pave Low in DCS but I am fascinated by the Osprey and its unique features
A Pave Low would be awesome, but only if and when they fix DCS night lighting.
The Ka52 rotor slap is totally satisfying. I think I could fall asleep to that.
That’s amazing. There were a number of moves that in the Huey would result in the main rotor going one way and the rest of the helo another
“Pilot’s perspective” – video from gunner’s seat.
I think I saw that…

Boeing had a pretty kickass website for the RAH-66 back in the day, too. A shame the Army mismanaged the project so poorly, but that’s the US gov’t for you.
Lets be honest, nothing the Army was going to do with that program was going to be near as good as the PC games we got from it.
I love the sounds the stubborn left engine makes when it’s cranking. It’s almost musical. Kind of reminds me of the sound that Ivor the Engine (anyone here remember that children’s program from the 70’s (maybe?)) used to make when under way - Pshhhhh-k-ch. Fond memories of childhood! Er, I may be showing my age here
It was cruel to go through all that and not see if lift off. Not that I would encourage anyone to take that thing airborne…
