Dear all,

For the next Hornet Open Beta update that is planned for late-April 2022, we plan several improvements. While these may change during the testing stage, they will probably be:

  • Addition of the Automatic Carrier Landing System, ACLS.
  • Addition of the Link 4 datalink for carrier-to-aircraft communications.
  • Addition of ACLS On/Off and Beacon On/Off to carrier Mission Editor advanced waypoint actions.
  • Corrected the Auto-Throttle Control (ATC) Approach mode such that it no longer moves the throttles to idle.
  • Addition of donor datalink tracks to the AZ/EL page.
  • Corrected MIDS track ID on SA display.
  • Changed the Electronic Countermeasures, ECM, such that when in XMIT it will use radar in priority rather than jammer in priority. This will allow the radar to operate with ECM transmitting, but at a lower radar detection capability.
  • Adjusted the radar look-down capability that factors in radar sidelobes.
  • Corrected radar slant range.
  • Ground units are now more visible on A-G radar.
  • Corrected “ghost” contacts when using TWS.
  • Corrected AGR message flashing error.
  • Corrected SLAM-ER / DL13 unlimited munitions error.
  • Corrected some HUD symbol overlap errors.
  • Corrected TOO coordinate saving when stepping targets.

Kind regards,

Wags

Corrected TOO coordinate saving when stepping targets.

Hopefully this addresses the TOO issue when dropping multiple JDAMs. :crossed_fingers:

Just in case anyone here missed it:
Dear all, we apologize for any confusion the upcoming inclusion of ACLS to the Hornet may have caused. A primary reason for the development of DCS: Supercarrier was to provide the most realistic carrier operations ever done for a PC flight simulation. Key aspects of this include the new Link 4 datalink and Beacon systems specifically created for the Hornet (just recently completed) and the new ATC radio communication system. While the ATC radio communications system will remain a unique feature of DCS: Supercarrier, we are investigating moving Link 4 datalink and Beacon (BCN) from SC to the free carrier. This would use the existing communications for the free carrier of simply messaging inbound. When we have more information on this, we look forward to updating you.

I don’t know, I think the carrier was worth it. Half the price of a plane but usable with F-14 and Hornet now and likely future planes too. Better Kuz for the Su-33.

But of course, people who don’t balk at spending $1k+ for a pit or sticks go ape dumps nuts when you suggest they spend $40 for SOFTWARE. If they can TOUCH it, it’s worth big $$. If it’s digital, it should be FREE!!!11111

I think there was some validity to the griping in that ACLS was initially listed as a to-be-developed feature of the Hornet module, yes? It would have been better to list “ACLS for supported modules” as a feature of Super Carrier, as it sounds like that was always the initial intention.

I don’t think this was done intentionally, and I see EDs exploration of a middle ground as admitting the comms got confusing there.

I agree that the current solution is the best solution for all. I just hope that people sticking with the free carrier know they are still missing out without the SC.

Yeah, that thinking has bugged me too, for decades; someone, very close to me, worked for a Fortune 500 chip maker, for years, and they fight tooth & nail over paying for software.

Personally I see nothing wrong with this. I have the SC for the “immersion” - these things, to me, are the things that make you feel you are there, and I wish there was more of it. They bring the “World”, in DCS World, to life. And give it longevity.
