The ACLS Mode 1 is quite cool. I’ve used it a few times just to try it out. I don’t really see myself using it often unless maybe at the end of a long mission, as I love Case III approaches.
I haven’t managed to get it to work so far, but then I suck at the very procedural flying the supercarrier ATC script requires.
I really enjoyed learning the CASE II/III procedures, It takes me right back to when I was getting my instrument ticket!
I found a bug report about glowing seas telling reloading the mission should fix it. Not for me. Loaded the thing three times
This should be dark, right? Supercarrier Persian Gulf Case III Recovery mission.
Edit: I found running the mission first thing after DCS load did fix the thing. OMG that’s dark. That was the ugliest carrier landing I ever did (and survived). OMG that secondary shadows effect looks good! sweet!
It may be just me, but it feels like night lighting has changed to be much darker (in VR, at least). I flew several night missions with varying weather this weekend and all seemed pitch black.
Full/New Moon? The biggest gripe I have with the G2 (versus the OLED one I had before): black isn’t black, it’s like the lenses are hazy in the dark, unless I turn the gamma way, way, down. Then I can’t see inside.
I see a lot of banding in the blacks, which is annoying in DCS at night. Any suggestions? I’ve played with Gamma which doesn’t seem to really help either way.
Reshade has a deband shader that I use in 2D and it works great. Haven’t tried it in VR though.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out!
Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023! As the team prepares for some well-earned time off, here is where we are with the Hornet:
- Highest priority is on bug fixing. This includes, but it not limited to issues with the Harpoon, SLAM, and SLAM-ER behaviors, ASE dot behavior, etc.
- We are performing a ground up review of and refactoring of the Hornet flight model and flight control system. This also includes a large update to the landing gear model.
- New and improved pilot model. Once this is complete, we’ll do the same for the Viper.
- Refactoring the radar for more accurate performance. Once this is complete, we’ll do the same for the Viper.
- We’ve updated the ALR-67 to include new functions and symbols.
Following the next Open Beta, tasks include:
- IAM loft cues.
- New bomb fuzes like DSU-33 and JPF.
- MUMI page and DTC. This will follow the Viper DTE page and DTC.
- A review of MSI functions based on available data for the version we are modeling.
Please note that the above are just the highlights is certainly not 100% inclusive of all planned work.
Kind regards,
Wags
I experienced something odd with the Harpoon last night. I hadn’t used it in a long time, but I was firing them at a 2-ship formation. The first ship was where my attack waypoint was, the 2nd was about a mile from there but very close angle-wise from the direction I was attacking. The first ship was sunk by RGM-84s from friendly ships before I could attack, but the 2nd was left alone.
I set the waypoint as target by pressing WPDSG and set the missiles for RBL. I set 2 for medium, skim, and small and 2 for low, skim, and small. Fired them with a few seconds between each.
I assumed they would get close to target, switch on radar, search and lock on to the 2nd ship.
Instead they all plunged into the water exactly at the waypoint where the first ship had been sunk!
In other words, they acted more like GPS guided cruise missiles or JDAMs with engines.
Is this a bug or did I forget to do something/set incorrectly?
Well thats a nice addition! Been waiting for a DSU-33 to come along.
What’s that do?
Its a proximity fuze. So it has a burst height. Gives the ability to airburst.
In-cockpit pilot model, or the one in the external view?
One of the cool things about the Hornet is the current kneeboard page tucked into the clear pocket on the left leg. If we got that in the Viper that’d be nice!
I like that too. I just wish the dang thing was bigger in VR.
BMS has one on each leg, that are substantially larger (think clipboard size, not deck of cards), and can be page-turned individually. It’s such a nice feature, I wish DCS would incorporate that. Yes, there are various virtual kneeboards that work well, but AFAIK, none of them play well with the Vaicom kneeboard, which I’ve grown rather dependent on.
I have to get back on to BMS now it’s got VR…
I would like the Hornet kneeboard to be bigger as well, it’s a bit small like you say. I’m told with the Reverb G2 and some of the other more expensive headsets it’s fine, so it is probably a problem that we won’t notice with time
With a G2 and a 3080/5800X3D it’s still pretty small, too small to really use.
