HP Reverb G2

There’s that, but you are also letting the production gremlins get worked out on us early adopters. See @Chaz’s comment above.

February… that hurts…

This is what I received today from my retailer:

Due to the lack of the first batch for Europe, the first delivery of HP Reverb G2 pre-orders is expected to be delayed by at least an additional two weeks.

So it seems that someone here may actually be enjoying my headset! :sob: :rage: :triumph:  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:  :joy:

All I’ve ever used is Inside/out tracking, via WMR/SteamVR on my O+. I rarely see tracking issues - the O+ only has 2 cameras. Perhaps it’s very dependent on your surroundings; how much ‘stuff’ you have. Seems it likes a cluttered room. Hmmm…

Course, for standing/room-scale I can’t speak.

You’ll be pleased to know it is not I. HP have advised me time frame for delivery is between mid-November and Christmas…so…Christmas…

I feel for you guys who are coming from other headsets. But if you are coming from the G1, with the latest WMR software the differences, although noticeable, are not that great IMO.

Thanks Boltface. Ordered with the blue light protection added. I had an incident with my G1 where I had some pretty bad eye strain after 3 non-stop hours in a rally sim. I clearly :slightly_smiling_face: didn’t blink often enough. Hoping that the blue light filter will help with this without affecting the image quality.

I thought about getting the blue light protection but didn’t because I was already paying extra for high index lenses (I’m blind as a bat).
I’d be interested in hearing how they work out.

I had the blue coating on my Rift S Widmovr lenses and the colors were just fine. I’ll be ordering mine this morning I think.

That comment makes me glad I opted to just to hold onto my G1 and live with the limitations as they were. I’m also in the camp that no matter how great the Reverb is, it still can’t make up for DCS complexity and performance.

Agree. Not related to the hardware, but VR in DCS fast movers is such a bittersweet experience. While the immersive cockpit is an absolute game changer, the fact that it’s almost impossible to ID objects out past a mile (like in a combat spread) is frustrating. Sure, you can use VR zoom, but combining that with a limited sweet spot makes sector scans tedious and tiresome, never mind finding ground targets without smoke or a JATAC. Maybe this is authentic. I should probably fly the Tomcat with it’s extra set of “eyeballs”.

I don’t feel this way in WW2 or racing sims.

I’ve heard it is somewhat realistic, esp with ground targets; you gotta get closer than you think. Note I’m no expert. I have though taken to paying attention to jets as they fly around my home since this subject gained notoriety.

Growing up living near these bases, and working on them, I’ve seen countless mil acft. From the ground of course, which may actually make it easier? And from the control tower. IMO, people way over estimate how far they can see these things, especially small military jets, not airliners. Conditions have a lot to say here too of course.

Now, RL with the naked eye and VR aren’t a direct comparison (nor is a monitor) but it’s within reason, to me. At about 5 miles (again depends on conditions) it’s like comparing a small mushy blob with an indiscriminate dot.

We had binoculars in the control tower for a reason. Though I was a RADAR guy I spent some time ‘hanging out’ with my Tower Flower friends; they were much better at it than I was…they were good at ID’g that ‘dot’ as an Eagle - but they knew it was an Eagle most of the time to start with (flight plan, info passed from approach; pilot actually telling them, etc). That helped I’m sure.

My first few times in the tower cab I was like, “I don’t see sheet”. My instructor was like, “right there dude, that light gray dot just above the horizon…”. Seems rookies tend to look too high. And my eyes were young back then.

In the RW you don’t masticate over this stuff. And that “I”-thing in VR is just too good to pass up, for me.

Yeah, but wasn’t it Yeager who stated that the most important attribute that a fighter pilot can possess is superior vision?

Yes, he did I believe. But he was Chuck Yeager!

Had to ‘interact’ with him once or twice. Let’s just say…he knew the whole world knew he was Yeager. Nuff said.

So you are asserting that good eyes and a massive ego are important?
