HP Reverb G2

Just Like I am @Scoop. You have to install WMR for Steam VR. Its a Steam App I believe. Look at the advice I was given last night and this morning on this thread. So, not just Steam VR.

I will be doing this tonight

I know the feeling. First time is like “ok, great, what now??”

You’ve got to find a way to start the game from within virtual reality. There’s multiple options:

  1. Some apps are listed in the floating windows menu (the windows button on your hand controllers). But not all. :frowning:
  2. You can start SteamVR, it comes with its own version of the “cliffhouse” user interface.
  3. You can open a desktop window in VR, attach it to a wall or just let it float in the air. It will display your windows desktop like a monitor and you can use the ordinary start menu from here.

Use the laserpointer-like hand controllers like a mouse.

Thanks all for the advice. Much appreciated. I got DCS to run by using Scatezilla and selecting VR on. Perfect except the settings clearly need to be changed. Meanwhile I am already feeling airsick from watching 360 degree videos. More this afternoon. @chipwich In my ignorance I did the reverse and installed SteamVR and WMR just appeared. It looks like the mid range of my varifocal glasses are the right ones. I have an opticians appointment on Fri and will then order some lens inserts.

May not be correct way but here’s how I’ve done it:

Plug in headset - WMR starts automatically
Double-click my SteamVR Beta icon on my 2D desktop*
Double-click DCS Icon (in this case) on the 2D desktop

  • Assumes you have SteamVR Beta installed of course.

I find it annoying to do any real work  in VR; too many decades with a mouse I guess :fighting_falcon:

FYI

Glad to hear it @Scoop !!! I came home and tried to install WMR for Steam but steam said "You’re an idiot, its already installed " stated it up an I got DCS working. Off to put some contacts on and try it out.
Thank You all guys. This community rocks!

Ok, I had the Samsung O+. Just had my First Ride in the G2. I like it. Much better tracking, visuals and smoothness. The way its built is much more comfortable. It also allows air in without allowing light in. This means no fog. But the best part is the visuals. No leaning in to read the instruments. Must go back to “Testing”

Good to hear. How’s the performance diff? Did you try 1/2 res, just out of curiosity. My O+ is still hanging in but…

Hanging in?!? No, the O+ is awesome. Its just that the G2 is sharper. It looks so realistic. Lighting is so improved. Making a trap all I could think is “I can see!”
I tried the Falcon and it was steady at 80 to 90. Jumped in the Cat and was 45 to 55. But it was so smooth I didn’t care.
Im only a little into it and think it was money well spent.

Yeah, I can bump the PD up on the O+ and it looks pretty good, though admittedly I’ve been using it so long my viewpoint is distorted (2 puns in a row?). But then it runs too slow of course. Just trying to get a grip on the tradeoff: clarity vs FPS.

Thanks for the info.

Remember, I skipped the G1. So its a big upgrade. My O+ will go to car sim duty wit my 1080 machine. But here on my 2080ti, the G2 is cracking!

The speakers are nowhere near my ears. Am I missing something? The audio is so low.
Edit: Had to turn the sound way up on the PC but its nice now. Just wondering how “she” will take to it.
Another blast. The F-16 is soooo nice in the G2.

I had a blast today. Nothing was serious. Tried different stuff, planes and times of day. Its pretty good. My SA is greatly improved. The G2 is all that.

For me the G2 feels like an upgraded Rift S with better FOV and higher resolution. Audio and clarity is superior. Tracking and controllers are the similar, with the added bonus that the controllers can be turned off to save on batteries. The light weight and head strap design are good, but my Rift S feels more comfortable with the halo design ymmv. Reprojection/smoothing is better than Oculus ASW. I am running an i5 [email protected], 32GB, and GTX1080Ti.

Maico sorry for the late reply. It looks like you have solved your problems and will not need to use recovery.
Enjoy your G2 !! :star_struck:

No problem, you gave me the right tools. My machine is just hard headed. I got Win 10 on the way. I am also installing a 1Tb M2 drive and doing some maintenance on the pc. So it will come up to 2021 standards whether she likes it or I drag her there by her teeth. Thanks for your helping hand

If you guys can stop talking about your G2’s, that’d be great. I suspect Google is soon going to instruct me to stop checking my email so often.
