HP Reverb G2

This stuff is so important it should have its own Thread!

Thanks for that! Your gear matches mine (1080GTX/O+) so nice to hear your results.

Well for the G2 I did try the 60Hz mode which in Elite and IL2GB it did not look like it did with the O+ and I was able to get it at a steady 60FPS…

In DCS the flicker was just the slightest bit more noticable but only able to get about 45-55FPS… I will need to test DCS further but so far my other games are very playable…

  1. Elite Dangerous.
  2. IL2 Great Battles.
  3. Star Wars Squadrons.
  4. DCS Needs further testing. I joined an Into the Inferno MP server and it was around 45FPS on the ground cold F16… I seen it go down to the mid 30’s in DCS while playing a single player mission so I need to test this further to get a better idea of the overall picture.

One thing about the G2 I do not like is the heaphone placement… they stand about an inch from my ear and the sound gets washed out a bit by backround noise… I am trying to mod it with a headmuff hearing protector…

I am not going to be drilling or cutting things up so I need a mod that does not modify the headset for warranty reasons… the headmuffs will sit over the earphones and hopefully act sort of like a over the ear headphone does… it should help with the sound…

Other then the headphone placement the headset is really good… I like the readability of the HUD and steam gauges in DCS and my other games… this should be good for a few years…

I just ordered prescribtion lenses for my Reverb G2 from VR Optician

135 EUR including Duravision Blueprotect, shipping and VAT.

Expected production time 4-5 weeks. There is a massive Covid-19 lockdown in Germany at the moment, so I will just be patient.

Happy Simming

Would it be ok to cancel that order and get the lenses from Widmo they are in Poland. I should be getting mine soon or at least it is in France right now… Widmo would not have near the delay VR Optician is seeming to have…

Widmo were quick and flawless for me.

Similarly for me…

One minor annoyance that I discovered with the VR Shaders recently is that, at least in my case flying the Huey, it removes the spinning rotor graphic. No doubt trading a little eye candy for performance.

It is just preemptively doing what I usually end up doing with the Huey…

Yeah, like I found with the refueler basket missing as well, pretty odd. I can sort of understand the rotor, as I can imagine that causing all sorts of issue with reprojection, but the basket? I’m not sure these things are deliberate.

@fearlessfrog @Troll

Well I seem to have got the shaders fixed and graphics have improved. I ended up also removing the metashaders files in each of the terrain folders as well. Then there was a slight delay while files were remade.

Thank you for your patience and guidance. .

Ok, should finish off this story.

I built my own WIDMOvr style lens and they work pretty well. Here were the steps:

I got some printed from here

https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/862242671/high-detail-custom-3d-printing-service

…of these…

This was for the HP Reverb G1 (not the G2), so it’s not something WIDMOvr etc do anymore. It cost about $10, with postage. They looked like this, and was an easy process to get done:

My good friend @Fridge also sent a bunch my way too (across all of Canada as well). I actually prefer them, as he sent three versions and the thicker plastic feels better:

You can see the round lens put in (with the important orientation / which side sticker I put it).

The lens where from Zenni Optical, and were the 41mm ones here. They came to about $10, although if you have a high prescription or astigmatism, then factor in about $20 more.

So how to make them is just take them out of the Zenni frames and click them into the 3D print. One thing I do wish I did better was mark the orientation of the lens before taking them out of the frame. Because I screwed that up I had to pop into a local opticians and ask them to measure the Axis value again, which wasn’t ideal. They didn’t mind but it was a bit cheeky. If anyone does plan to do this, then I recommend watching this before taking the lens out.

So considering I had no options for the Reverb G1, and it cost about $30, pretty good. It was interesting to play around with as well.

I was wondering if any of you seen this Mod?

I was wondering how it would work with the Widmo lenses I put in?

He’s using the same interface that I printed earlier, made by ”Jewcookie”. The youtuber here is using another cushion than I did, but with the 8mm cushion that I used, I could feel my eyelashes brush against the lenses. So I doubt that it can be used with lens inserts on top of the lenses.

Hmm that kinda sucks but guess I am glad I did not purchase it… so to be clear you have no lenses on your but with this mask your eyelashes are close to the lenses?

Also I was wondering since the G2 has a USB C Plug would it be better to have a motherboard with that Plug in it for best connection?

I, am asking as I had an issue where I needed to unplug the USB 3.0 and replug it as my speakers was all distorted. was the cause of the issue that I do not have a USB C Port? I am leaning towards getting in on the 11th series CPU and I was going to get a mother board now…

I sometimes experience strange mouse pointer behaviour in DCS…
I can only move the pointer if I’m not activating the G2 proximity sensor by wearing the headset or covering the sensor with my finger.
What can be the reason for this?

Is the DCS “constrain mouse pointer to window” thingy maybe causing that? I think it is a feature and not a bug?

There’s a WMR setting to ignore the sensor on the headset. Try that.

Not sure if it works, since I put tape over my sensor already before that setting appeared. (Odyssey)

Edit: or the ‘use mouse in VR’ setting in DCS?
