HP Reverb G2

Don’t think so as the mouse pointer suddenly works if I restart the PC, without changing anything.
The mouse pointer works in DCS, as long as I’m not wearing the headset.
I can see the mousepointer move in the VR repeater display on the 2D screen, but if I activate the proximity sensor with a finger, it stops working.

I restart the PC, and start DCS again, all is well…until next time it decides to stop working again…

Wilco! Thanks for the tip.

I hope it works :no_mouth:

HaHa, I am such a Dumbass. I was sweating a new motherboard and CPU to get a USB-C Port and my current Motherboard already had it…

So I am going to test this port out and see if I still get that error… Now I can just focus on trying to obtain a GPU…

@Troll, which pad did you get for this mod… in his video he says there is an 18mm pad I could get would that help? I would really like to get more FOV then I currently have…

I made my own hard foam pad. It is 8mm thick and doesn’t compress. The interface designer recommends 6-8mm padding. 18mm padding will probably compress quite a bit. Hard to say how much. I guess the best way is to try it out.

I dug up an old Gigabyte 980ti. Cursory glance shows them going for about $300. Would there be any noticeable benefit to putting it in my current machine in SLI with the 1080ti (Probably not, as the 1080ti would be downclocked to run with the 980ti)?

Can you even SLI two completely different cards?

NO SLI needs identical GPU’s. you could use the 980ti as a Physics card tho but that technology is all but dead…

Yeah, thought so. Guess I’ll probably put it up for sale. Feels a bit like war profiteering, but at the same time, it would be silly not to take advantage of the current prices when I don’t need the card.

So HP did a good job improving the Reverb cable from the lizard tail / I-beam cable of the Reverb G1 by making it thinner and lighter. But for some reason, with the new cable they decided to go with some crazy grippy rubber coating that drag racing tire manufacturers are trying to deconstruct for their own purposes. I saw a post on Reddit indicating good success with a cable cover and I’m very happy with the results. The 1/4" diameter cable cover works great, is form fitting, and drastically reduces the cable-on-cable friction, and cable on shoulder/chair/floor friction.

I ordered the 1/4" - 25’ length which works perfectly (you will have about 8 or 9’ left over)…

It takes some work to get that sticky cable in there…but you quickly develop a technique of using two fingers to spread the cable cover flat while using another trailing finger to push the cable into the gap. Once in, the cable does not slide within the cover, but the covering slides across itself with much less friction.

I only ran mine as far down as the power/USB-C junction box thingy…didn’t see the point of running it past there. I rarely move around with my Reverb on anyway since I’m 99% of the time a seated gamer…but just having the cable not gripping on my shoulder and chair is a nice improvement.

Boohoo. I got a package from HP support today. In it a fresh HMD. Just the HMD, no cables or speakers. I plugged it in… Zilch. Blinking white led on the junction box and ‘no headset connected’ on screen.

Called support. They’re escalating, meaning I get to expect a call back from someone who actually knows their thing. I hope.

Little schurem wants to fly!

Was going to ask how the situation was going …and now it’s two dead headsets … could it be a problem with the pc now,

My money is on the cable. It has to cope with a very high bandwidth requirement, so perfect condition is probably just good enough.

If there were an easy way to diagnose I’d jump through the hoops. But one of the first things I did when the thing refused to come online was a factory reset of the os, effectively a reinstall. The machine gives no signs of malfunction whatsoever.

Cable seems a likely culprit now. The junction box is pretty small for the amount of power and data flowing through it.

Hey, I’m just going to pipe in with my own updated experiences.

My first unit went cross-eyed, then fixed itself, then cross-eyed again, then fixed itself, then went dark. I’m receiving a replacement cable/power system, but honestly, I’m not hopeful.

The second unit, which I tested before shipping to the Netherlands, worked fine. However, the recipient is not having any luck and is currently dealing with the dreaded ‘H2’ update hiccups and headaches.

If the cable and power system replacement doesn’t work, I’m going to ask for a full RMA. I’m disappointed that HP didn’t test this thing more vigorously.

That said - WHEN it works, it’s pretty nice, even on my now-agine 1070ti’s. I never got to really play with it on my 5700XT, though we all know how throttled back that thing really is.

Built my new system with the G2 in mind , but between QC/design issues and WMR headaches , i’m beginning to reconsider . Problem is i’m going to lose my Rift S come January , or likely be forced to make a deal with the devil - and we all know how those work out .
Anxiously awaiting another option to reveal itself before then , but it’s not looking good .

Worry not, January is ages away in computer hardware terms.

Big thanks again for giving it to me! I got H2 working and I’m now stuck on error code 4-1. No matter what USB port I try, WMR asks for a superspeed 3.0 port. All I have are SS3.0 ports and 3.1 ports. A powered hub doesn’t help either. I made sure all the extensible host controllers have (microsoft) in the driver name. I tried removing them all, I tried the host controller drivers on the motherboard website rather than using the windows version, I also tried to USB-C port on my motherboard but that doesn’t result in a response at all.
