HP Reverb G2

Do we dislodge our heads from our necks and then wave them around, or just keep them in place…?

Good info, @fearlessfrog. I didn’t know that.
(Also, I don’t know how you know, but I’m prepared to just accept that)

No idea why, but down to $399 at Wally’s World (US only I would assume). Still probably the best sit-down sim VR headset around.

Might be worth that price just to secure a spare cable…

HP Canada has a special $50 off coupon … now only $800.

EDIT: I was being sarcastic. I know, I know, sarcasm doesn’t translate well over the internet.

LOL right after I buy mine for $500+.

Oh well, if I can’t remember what I paid for it it must not have been too much. Sadly I’ve only gotten to play with it four or five times so far, as I’ve been out on the road nearly continuously the last month and a half.

That’s not too good for me.

It’s my default setting.

And the knob’s broken off.

I’ll just hang on to my cards and feel blessed for what I have. 1080 water cooled and a 2080ti. Ok, so I got the short end of the stick on my display… my G2 is Dead… cable… Just be happy. My EVGA 1080 and OR cv1 are good enough to make me giggle all morning on Assetto Corsa

They’ve started selling replacement cables. Have you contacted hp support? They’re slow but generous.

I have not. How do you get a cable from them?

Ask for it, politely.

What have I done?! After reading all the cable complaints about the G2 on this thread I went ahead and ordered the G2 for $789 Canadian ($890 with tax LOL!).

Although I really like the Oculus Quest 2, the “Link” to my PC stopped working with the Link cable, or without it (with Air Link). I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve troubleshot this problem. It put me in such a bad mood that I fired off a stupid reply in another thread to @Cib of all people! … one of the nicest guys here! Sorry @Cib (I hope you know what I’m talking about).

Anyway, I did hear a bit of plastic or something rattling around in the Quest 2 early on so I’ll probably have to RMA it. I’m going to keep it for cordless stuff though.

No worries I am glad it wasn’t something I said
Good luck with the G2 it is a great bit of kit and look great with that 3080

So that was easy! I got an account at HP. Got on the chat. Asked for a cable… They said I will get it in 3 days. WHO KNEW it was going to be that easy.

That was cool!

So I plugged the G2 into my back panel USB C 3.2 gen 2 port on my X570 mobo last night. The Windows Mixed Reality Portal kept saying, “We can’t find your headset. Please plug in your headset.”. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! :astonished: That’s the exact same thing I experienced with my Quest 2 which made me buy the G2 in the first place HA HA! I pretty much lost it. Went to bed an unhappy camper.

This morning I woke up and did one last search for the problem before work. Eureka! Apparently AMD X570 mobos have ridiculously underpowered back panel ports!!! I always wondered why my Quest 2 would never charge off that USB C port! :-1:

I should’ve paid more attention to posts about this problem here too from guys like @Troll. Ended up plugging the G2 into an oldy but goody powered USB 3.0 hub. The front panel USB 3.0 worked but it sucked and kept losing connection … probably underpowered as well. The USB hub works pretty good but I’ve noticed a few MSFS2020 crashes so I bought the fastest powered USB 3.0 super speed hub I could find. I think it can sustain 3Gbps plus, but if it doesn’t work out I’ll buy an internal pcie USB card.

After all this, I quite like the G2! Great headset! Made dang sure to tape the cord to two “pull points”. I want to have zero pressure on the plug.

From what I understand as I had 2 G2’s and both had issues. not saying this will fix the G2 on your setup but I was informed that getting a PCIe USB card it should fix these issues.

As from what I read the USB ports on the Motherboard have neither the power needed or controllers. a PCIe USB card solves this issue.

I had a similar issue with my Rift S and it would not recognise the headset unless I plugged it back in every boot. Once I got the PCIE USB card I have had no issues.

I saw this info on the VR4DCS Discord channel and the one that was suggested to buy where the StarTech PCIe USB cards there are 2 port and 4 port cards, I bought the 2 port as it was reccomended to not plug anything else into it wirth the headset…

here is what I bought:

https://www.newegg.com/startech-com-model-pexusb3s23/p/N82E16815158370?Item=N82E16815158370

I was also informed HUBS will not fix the issue only magnify it. PCIe card is the way to go. again YMMV but you could try it I don;t see why it should not fix the G2 issue as well…

With unpowered hubs, yes.

But if this is a power problem, and @Elby used a powered hub that draws its own power straight from the wall, then it makes sense, right?

I used a PCi expansion usb/SATA 3 card when I bought the Oculus. Worked great with the benefit of adding a couple of extra drives

no I used a powered USB 3.0 Hub and it did not fix my issue. Once I used the above linked PCIe card did my problem go away it is a power and Controller issue noty only power issue.

The PCIe card gets plugged into a SATA Power connector and the PCIe has its own controller and drivers…

Goto VR4DCS and asks Thud about it he is the one who told me I am only passing the info I learned. if a G2 user would try this and it worked it could be the solution to alot of G2 owners problems…

Thanks for the tips guys.

Actually my USB 3.0 hub plugged into a USB 3.2 port has been working great! I’m glad I had it too because plugging the G2 directly into my computer wasn’t working. Seems quite counter intuitive. I like using a hub because I have separate on/off switches for each port and if the computer doesn’t detect the headset right away I can just flick the port off/on instead of having to replug.
