HP Reverb G2

Yeah, good call PB. I had looked in the System log, but forgot the Application log. I rebooted my system, started DCS via Skate’s Updater, jumped in the UH-60L in the PG quick start mission Cold and Dark. Began working through the startup checklist and when I move engine 2 PCL to idle, SteamVR and DCS crashed. Found this. Looks like the vrcompositor.exe is the culprit. Not sure exactly what action to take, but at least I know what is faulting. Doing some web searches now.

Edit: Found this reddit post, which is similar to what I’m seeing. Going to disable WMR motion reprojection to see if that helps as it did with this person.

So far, that seems to have been the issue. Happy Black Hawk camper again.

Try starting DCS from within SteamVR home, or the WMR home. This has fixed this problem for others.

Looks like a classic software bug, Chipwich.

Whatever is using the library ucrtbase.dll is doing something it should not.

Are you using any non-production ready beta software?

If it’s not gone now you could file a bug report, a dev with a debugger might be able to find the code line that causes this.

Thanks. I have SteamVR home disabled, trying to limit resource usage. How do I setup DCS as an app to start from WMR home?

Have a look at this thread

@fearlessfrog has a description on how to do it in the WMR portal and @McNasty_UK has one further down from SteamVR.

Reading that thread again reminded me I seemed to correlate my problems to a hardware monitor that was running. You have any of those in the background?

FWIW I have been getting a marked improvement from setting "VR prerendered frames"from the default of 1 to 3 in the Nvidia Control Panel thingamibob.

I then went in the sim, turned of MSAA and turned SSAA to 1.5. Sim looks great and remains flyable even in some of the more taxing things I threw at it.

Well I will try this trick but what exactly is SSAA??

Super sampling AA, essentially you render the frame at a higher resolution, then sample it down in a way that minimizes spatial aliasing. It’s qualitatively the best method, but being the brute force approach, also computationally very demanding.

so would it look better then MSAA? if so would it be more demanding the MSAA? or about the same.

Since the engine switched to deferred rendering, MSAA doesn’t work all that well any more, so I’d suggest you try, but essentially yes. Just don’t use both at the same time, as that will absolutely kill your framerate.

Is there any advantage to using SSAA rather than just upping the resolution in SteamVR or Pixel Density in DCS?

No idea, sorry. Personally I still use MSAA as my meager 970 can’t cope with SSAA.

SSAA wont work wIth VR in dcs.

Its just same thing as Supersampling but for 2D

lmao someone recommending vr porn around here. it’s time!

would rather fly the Apache at this point in time

Sad day, my Reverb G2 died.
Sad Anthony Anderson GIF

The day before I was happily flying Tomcat and enjoying just recently found OpenXR goodness. The next day the computer was not able to make any connection with HMD. This time the connection problem was different: no errors, no signs of HMD in device manager. After tinkering for a day, I must draw the conclusions.

With expired warranty and G2 prices being at 700€ around here, I think it is time for me to move on to test something new. If anyone is in need of spare parts for G2, just ask (I have 2 cables, 3 controllers, 2 pairs of headphones and of course the broken HMD). Edit: All parts reserved / sold / shipped already.

Tried it on another PC? Just to make absolutely sure?
If it still won’t work, I’ll buy the speakers from you. I’d like to test them on my Aero…

Not yet, but maybe I should just to make sure.

You can have the speakers with weak G2 connector (as you probably will just solder it anyway) for postage fee. Maybe you can PM me your address.

The horror!

VR I has totally spoiled me. Be like losing my HOTAS. Worse maybe. I’d take the cable but sounds like it’s the same one I have, an original. Did you try another USB port by chance. Mine only works in one (of about 8 ports). FWIW.
