Well yes, two different things. So, flying DCS, IL2, Flying Circus using VR and HOTAS I have never once had a tracking issue. (But it is true that I am hardly like the girl in the Exorcist.)
X-plane also, using VR controllers this time, has never been a problem. Granted, there is less over the shoulder flying in X-plane. But when I fly helicopters with the doors off I do look down and back on occasion. Again, not once have I had an issue that wasn’t caused by those earbuds or an armrest blocking my collective hand. Both since resolved.
I dont know what voodoo magic rift uses, but even reaching behind your back to grab the tablet in Onward doesn’t make it glitch out. They nailed the camera tracking system, hope the G2 is as good even if it has 1 less camera.
Has anyone seen or read any comments in the comfort of the G2 vs. the original. I find the G1 pretty comfortable, but the Index was the standard of comfort for me despite the fact it weighed more.
The MrTV guy, I think it was, mentioned it was more in line with the Index comfort-wise; recall something about how the joint venture panned out in this area.
the steam link for preorder redirect italian customers to US…
Italian store just created the g2 page and listed it 888,16€ wich i think/hope is a placeholder…
I checked hp germany and is 699€ wich is still much more than US 599$…
Now the italian pages says “coming soon “.
Anyway unfortunately the 599 euros price was for preorders done before the 31th of july.
But we did not have any opportunity to have an official preorder.
Anyway just an heads up…amazon.es have it on preorder for 599
Ordered mine around a month ago. £525.00 with a Sept delivery predicted, but a warning it was first ordered first served. That was through the UK HP site.
I haven’t measured the FoV in my Rift S, but I don’t think it’s bad at all. Sure, I see the edges and I could use more, but it’s not like I feel that it’s a problem. Perhaps wearing glasses and scubadiving have conditioned my visual expectations
But interesting to see that I can expect a noticeable improvement with the G2.
Whats the FOV while sitting in a P-47 w a helmet and goggles on? Whats the FOV in a helmet while flying a 50s jet? Reduced FOV is adding to the immersion.
Agree. With my Odyssey+, and my aged back & neck, when I’ve managed to trap a ‘bandit’ at my deep six it’s a struggle to see it. The lack of clarity outside the ‘sweet spot’ is likely an issue too.
[my last F-16 ride was BFM; containing a humorous story about checking six - humorous to my pilot more than me]
I’m not expecting 200-degree FOV from manufacturers, though that would be nice; IMO something around 150 (horizontal) might be about perfect, and probably near what you 'd get from a combat flight helmet.
I’ve worn one on a few occasions (last time about 1998-99) and while I have no clue what the 'FOV" was from them, I don’t recall any significant restriction in that area. I’d probably remember it if it was significant (the noise, from all sources, I recall the most).
If I had to close my eyes and think way back, really hard, I’d guess the helmets I wore then restricted my FOV to something around 160-ish?
Surely there’s someone here that has much more experience with this than I.
For checking six, theres two ways I do it: one is looking up and back. So vertical. You don’t get deep six, but six-high is pretty helpful and where the bandit most likely is in BFM going badly. Putting the seat back way low, as it should be in the viper helps a lot with this.
The other way is to lean forward then twist from the hips. This way I can see the tail of my plane. Not very realistic, as you dont get that sort of room in many machines.
