Yeah, I do both. Still a ‘pain’, but I’d not have it any other way (wider FOV + wider sweet-spot would always be nice though).
The wider sweetspot will help with peeking under nvgs at the MFDs. Blurry mess in the rift S.
Checking six, wearing a helmet, strapped into a seat with a five-point harness while pulling G…
I think that you should be happy to see 5 and 7 o’clock… Looking straight back will require turning your torso. Yes, VR FoV is a bit on the narrow side, but the real problem is that TrackIR and PoV hatters have an unfair and unrealistic advantage.
I feel like they put mirrors in there for a reason… problem is vr eats so much performance, most people turn them off.
Ya know that did remind me (re; my BFM ride mentioned above)…and if I recall correctly I actually can (of course) turn around further [in my office chair]. But now that you mention it - it’s the blurry vision outside the sweet-spot that is the larger issue, followed closely, and related to, the FOV…
When we did the Defensive part of the sortie my ‘driver’ told me to keep a visual as he did the break turn and tell him when I saw the attackers ‘belly’ (gun’s only training) and he’d “do some stuff”. I never had a problem doing this turned around and looking back, even under the G we were at (don’t recall what it was).
And the G of course. Ugh, that was a real physical workout.
Man I’ve tried using them but (Hornet & Tomcat), performance hit aside, I just can’t see much anyway - feel like I’m missing something; the urge to just turn and look takes over real quick.
While your hands were placed on the stick and throttle?
Ah, good point. No, my hands were on the ‘towel racks’; I only got to fly when straight & level
I haven’t flown fighters, or in a helmet.
But my experience is that in order to look at the vertical stabilizer, I need to lean forward while looking back and down. And that’s a tricky proposition while holding on to the stick…
That seems to be what I have to do in VR myself…and I to have move my All-in-one printer or I’ll crack my headset on it (cramped quarters)
Need to fix my office chair too I think - make it so it won’t ‘spin’ as it has no lockout for this. Just haven’t gotten around to it. Spin/rotation on the spindle is bad too cuzz I whack my knees onto my stick mount…ah, the problems of flight simulation
Exactly! But using a PoV hat or TrackIR, checking six is a breeze…
So primitive
I received my Grass Monkey head tracker (TIR equivalent) just the other day and I now have it up and running… I played with it in X-Plane for about 15 minutes, and then fired up the Rift S. There is no comparison. I hasten to add that the Grass Monkey IR tracker is a nice piece of equipment, and it will serve me well with MSFS2020 until the Reverb G2 arrives. After that, I’ll probably just use it to learn new DCS modules before jumping into VR.
Yeah, my TIR has been buried in a box since the O+ showed up. Now…there are those that won’t agree with me but, well, that’s okay…
Likewise…actually since my Rift I haven’t touched my TIR…
I sold my TiR when I got my rift…never looked back. I’m always on the offensive anyway
'Cept when them ole spitfires jump ya MIG15 unannounced…
For everyday DCS and IL2 I use my O+. Im fortunate enough to have the appartment to myself, so two computers. My TV has a pc hooked up with a machine that has a 1080 non Ti. The Rift does a fantastic job on Assetto Corsa. I havent tried DCS on it but come to think… I need to do a comparison… I bought Beat Sabre and Space Pirate Trainer for this purpose. My girl and I have great fun sessions playing this. I can tell you that I really appreciate the comfort of the Rift when I am walking around dodging stuff. Comfort is my biggest complain about the O+. After and hour or so my forhead is not so good. After 2 hours its numb.
So, RECYCLE people! You would be surprised how much performance the 'ol Rift still has.

Comfort is my biggest complain about the O+
You can say that again. I’ve made several ‘field mods’ and now it’s fine but, out of the box not so good. Picture is fine and colors good. And I got it for about $300
Well, I jumped on the Pre Order bandwagon today. Hope we all get them soon.
