Popped in for a out 10 minutes. It’s good.
If any of you who have the game use VR I’d appreciate your opinion on whether an 8GB VRAM card will produce playable results in VR?
Having some fun ground pounding, the map looks very nice making low level flight easy on the eyes. Winter looks especially nice
Edit: using Track IR here Torc
I use an ASUS TUF-RTX4080-16G-GAMING and I have most things maxed out with very smooth performance. I think you could be ok with 8 with some graphics settings turned down a bit.
I tried it out in VR for about a hr 1/2 yesterday…Its a new system to me…so like anything else going to have to learn more and get comfortable with it…I miss the Clicky Clicky cockpits in DCS…But visually and performance wise in VR it’s quite good…Gotta give it some more time this weekend.
It’s odd. I guess like all sims before it, I’ll get used to it. In VR there is a cartoonish quality to the landscape. The colors are off: maybe too warm; too saturated? It reminds me of professional flight simulators. (This is not a compliment). Also cartoonish is how the little mig can mow down entire forests with its cannon. The menu system sucks. It beats “Control-Alt-Shift-Numpad *”, certainly. But still clunky. When I first tried VR, IL2 was at the time the most perfect implementation of the new tech of any sim in my rotation. So I was surprised at the was menus in the UI shifted around as my head moved. It caused a rare (for me) moment of dizziness. After 30 minutes, I was pretty well done. The MiG-15 is fun and flies much like the DCS MiG-15. Flight modeling is where IL2 shines so I was expecting not to be disappointed and I wasn’t. I haven’t figured out how to zoom in VR so I haven’t tried A2A yet. According to friends, it’s amazing.
PS: I tried the anti-bomber mission. It’s a good stress test as we engage 50+ B-29s. I failed the stress-test. I tried DLSS with max performance, FSR with max performance and no oversampling. DLSS was best, mostly 20-50 FPS with slide shows when multiple nearby gunners were shooting at me. Frankly it looked quite bad as well. Not trying to be a downer. “It IS early access” as people like to say. However, were I to do it over, I would skip the $10 EA savings and pay full fare at release.

Is anybody else getting hard CTDT when using the flight control interface?? If I use it to raise flaps/gear this tends to happen…Could it be a conflict with what I have my HOTAS programmed to??
Not me. I haven’t tried flaps or gear specifically. But I have other commands without issue.
EDIT: I tried with other controls without a crash. (MiG-15)
didnt have any trouble binding keys to controls, flaps bound to throttle switch and gear bound to virpil panel… did notice some interesting flight model on the Mig15 … in dcs it becomes uncontrollable in a full power dive, with a pronounced roll to the right, tried to reproduce in the korean mig and it almost pulled itself out of the without any help, are there any flight helpers ?
on a side point it looks very very nice and runs very well, making the DCS mig cockpit look very lackluster
There are. Don’t know if they are on by default. I’ll wait to dive back in after the next update. Performance, game-y forest machine gun mowing and inability to start my own jet have left me very cold with this sim.
EDIT: Nope. Not the place ![]()
About performance, what are the specs (cpu, ram, gpu) of your machine? You are more closed to the minimum or the recommended settings? I use this simulator in a clouding machine and it runs very well.
As a reference mine are:
28GB ram, RTX A4500 20GB VRAM, AMD epyc 8 vCores 3.7GHz
Amd ryzen 9850x3d 32gb 6000mhz ram and a 4070ti super
It gives a stable 80fps, I haven’t changed any settings except moving to dlss from fsr
Have had a few ctd’s normally when immediately after changing planes or missions
It works fine for me in 2D. Still, tbh, it was a purchase I regret.
I’ve got maybe an hour into it so far. Still tweaking settings and control stuff. I’m excited to play more.
I will read this and eat my pop corn… My vacation started the 23rd.
