I honestly really like how he words things.
Props to them and their maturity in claiming mistakes when mistakes were made.
I like the game and I plan on keep on playing. ^-^

You see users claiming bias, agendas and other explanations making points that developers seem to prefer to ■■■■ their users off on a regular basis.
The simple explanation often being the correct; they mess up sometimes.
I can totally imagine that making IL-2 fit two so different technologies as WWI&II is hard work. Maybe too hard? Should they split the titles to make things easier? I don’t know anything about software development so I’m happy to pay @777Studios_Jason and the gang, to do it for me
This was an own goal in several ways. By quickly locking threads when the DM discussion was brought up, the team came across as being in denial as well as defensive. Defensive is understandable. Denial just feeds the fire. I lurked a Discord discussion a few days ago where Jason popped in and turned the heat dial up from the very first post. He is passionate. Sometimes I feel to a fault. There was a bit of trolling in the thread but for the most part people were simply venting the anger of having been shut down in the first place. It turns out that the vocal community was right even if the words some chose to express their point were less than helpful. Right, right down to the specific update that generated the DM problems now plaguing FC. Some acknowledgment sooner would have avoided a huge amount of angst on both sides of the developer/customer divide. Anyway, I am very happy to read from Jason a very honest and understandable explanation for how we got here and how they plan to fix it going forward. Well done.
Normally not the place but this was made by one of the vocal DM critics. I think it shows that he was coming from a place of love. (The white “S” is Smokin’ Hole)
We are a passionate bunch of customers, us flightsimmers. We know what we want, or at least we think we do. We want realism, but not to the point that it becomes boring. We want realistic damage, but also cool explosions, because that’s what we saw in some movie, which is basically the only experience 99,9% of us got.
Some of us know more than others, of course, but even the brighter ones base their knowledge on anecdotal evidence from books, movies, interviews, etc. Some even think what they saw in another flightsim is the truth…
Now, imagine being a flightsim developer.
You have your goal to create a good flightsim.
You have your understanding based on your knowledge, just like your customers do.
You have your view and they have theirs.
So, when these views don’t agree, you need to know who’s right… You, or those customers who are complaining.
Now, could we honestly expect a developer to discard their own view and just accept an alternative view? Of course not. Of course they are going to stick to their guns. They can’t change the sim based on every whim out there. They need convincing.
To me, this is all very understandable. I react in much the same way myself. I never change my mind just because someone say I’m wrong. I need a little more than that.
So, happy to see that there are people out there who can convince developers in a constructive way, so that change happens.
Some people are just plain oblivious to the notion that the presentation of the message can overpower its content. In their zeal to prove their point, or that they are “right”, they lose sight that if you removed the message and replaced their words with blah blah blah, they look like loonies and jerks.
The irony is that they claim they can clearly see the problem or the solution while they apparently can’t see their own behavior is self-defeating.
Time and time again it has been proven that to ascribe dishonesty, malfeasance, or conspiracy to events that are in reality just screw ups (which may or may not rise to the level of incompetence, as that is largely a judgement call on the degree and frequency of mistakes) is unnecessary and inaccurate. People seem all too ready to believe that these acts are deliberate. Why they won’t believe it’s a just a big mistake and instead insist it’s forcing working against them I will never understand.
So. Much. This.
There have been several updates by Han and Jason since I last updated this thread

That sounded so sad. I wonder what’s going on, and what the future will bring for Jason (and Il2!).
Mayhaps this has something to do with the current troubles around the Crimea?
He’s had a mixed history with the community. But overall he did pretty well herding Russian cats and getting a refined product out to the world. I’ll miss him. I think the sims will too.
Yeah, that’s a shame to see Jason go. I still have hopes for a Flying Circus part 3 to get us some of the earlier WWI aircraft, but aside from that I guess the Great Battles series has run its course if they’re not wanting or not able to go to the pacific (with the current simulation engine)?
I worked for him briefly years ago. Never met such a passionate flightsimmer.
He’ll be back.
