Bone marrow cancer is lots of very different things, one actually minor because the disease advances slowly. My hope is that this is that. Whatever it is, I love you @wagmatt! You mean a great deal to us. You ARE Eagle Dynamics. Get well and come back soon.

@wagmatt Wishing you a speedy recovery. I remember meeting you at IITSEC several years ago, and I had a fanboy reaction. Your reaction made me realize you are a down-to-earth individual with a real passion for what you do. My mentor once said, " We all go through hills and valleys (seasons)." This too shall pass, and you’ll be up and at it in no time. Know that you have a whole community rooting for you. Upwards!

Very sorry to hear that Derby. Probably stating the obvious, but the absolute best thing that you can do is spend as much time with him as possible, no matter how trivial the activity.

My sister is losing her battle as well. Cancer has many darks sides. But one that has recurred over and over among my friends, and now my family, is false hope. The victim and the closest loved ones cling to the possibility that the cancer will be “beat” when it is abundantly clear to those who are more detached emotionally that the time to fight has ended. Families get torn apart by the need for constant care when hospice would be best for all, especially the victim. We tell people to “stay strong” and “you’ve got this”. Statements like this harm the victim. They reinforce the illusion that attitude aids the cure. Science shows that this is not the case. Worse, it can add to the victim’s despair as the cancer advances and they blame themselves for being insufficiently positive.

All my life my sister has been our family’s rock—and often herself the caregiver while the rest of us lived our comparatively exotic lives. My heart breaks for her. Far more important now though are the families of her two sons. Their wives (mainly) share in the 24/7 care of their mother-in-law and both are at the very end of their rope. Reality is there for those who choose to see it—and blind to those who need to see it.
