Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

The problem is that people usually goes to what is more pretty vs what is more real. It happens manytimes in other sims and shooters, were people think that that over reality lights blooms, motion blur etc etc that only exist in camera optics effects is more real than not have them. The time when more effects is always more real, is over since many many years ago. In Portugal also the countryside highways are with lights turned off, the only lights there is from cars lights or in bridges but not too bright.

That shot from Warsaw has surprisingly sparse high-rise building count:

AFAIK Belgium still is all lit up. .nl isn’t entirely, but about a third or a quarter of our highways are lit. Looks gorgeous in the sim tho, don’t it?

I haven’t put nearly enough time in the alpha. I got a bluescreen, then the kids needed attention, the yak 52 needed flying, some blacksharkening had to be done, and so it goes.

Doesn’t strike me as particularly odd. Many big European cities don’t have that many high buildings.

The point is that in real life there are several skyscrapers in Warsaw (I’ve been there in person), I even provided a link from google maps with 3d city view of the same area for comparison.

But I have a suspicion that the alpha tester who took that screenshot could have lowered detail levels (lower building density).

Probably.
Sorry, I am on mobile so I couldn’t check your link yet.

Ok, I checked in Google Earth and you are right, there are indeed a lot of buildings missing around it.
And the trees are pretty flat, too. Probably low detail level or so.

(sure, still better than most sceneries out there, but they set the bar so high, I guess they won’t be angry that we look closely. )

I assure you with 100% certainty that #7 is in Nepal. Tumling Tar Airport. VNTR

Yes, you are right, sorry!

This is the location from Google Earth. The mountain range in distance does not look entirely right but I suppose it might have something to do with terrain LODs.

Man, I don’t condone drinking and driving at the best of times, but if you’re part of the runway construction & painting crew it would be especially good if you could lay off the paint thinner until the day’s work is done, huh.

Thanks!
I’ll edit it in.

March 12th, 2020 Development Update

POSTED BY: MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR TEAM

“Either the grass/weeds are too big or the plane is too small. Hope they can fix things like this before release…”

  • Avsim User

    Fix grass. Check.

  • MSFT

The team has been hard at work on a number of key deliverables we’re planning to release in the near future. There are a few updates we wanted to make everyone aware of:

ALPHA BUILD UPDATE

The upcoming Alpha build update is currently in release testing. We expect to provide a release date and build notes in our next update on March 19th.

ALPHA INVITATIONS

For those of you that have not yet registered for pre-release build testing or that have registered but would like to update your DXDIAG information, we will be opening registration on March 16th.

On March 19th, we will provide an update on our invitation timeline.

  • EPISODE 8 (MULTIPLAYER) IS ALMOST HERE!

On March 19th, the team will be releasing the next episode in the Feature Discovery Series (Episode 8 – Multiplayer). In this episode, we’ll take an in-depth look at the multiplayer feature in the upcoming next generation of Microsoft Flight Simulator!

  • EPISODE 7 (IFR) COMING IN EARLY APRIL.

FEEDBACK SNAPSHOT

We have released an updated version of the Feedback Snapshot! Head into the Insider Area to check it out.

SDK UPDATE

The SDK is now being used by over 50 companies and hundreds of programmers and artists. We have spent time listening, discussing and learning from our 3rd party developers, and we are working closely with them to keep improving the tools. The new aircraft editor is close to being finished with several improvements to the workflow. We also made lots of progress on WebAssembly support, which is the technology that will allow the porting of native code to our platform. We are excited to share what we developed with our partners within the next few weeks.

Several 3rd parties have started to share the roadmaps with us and we happy to report that dozens of planes and airports are in development and we are hopeful that quite a few of them will be ready by the time our new simulator is released.

Great! Thanks for the heads up Fearless!

I’m pretty sure you could put some flight simmers in the cockpit of an actual aircraft and let them fly around, and they would still find something to complain about…

Pretty great that flight simulation has advance to the point where we are worried about modeling grass.

Joke’s on them, we’ve got real pilots here that do that.

As I was climbing through FL430 at 1000 fpm the other day on my way to FL450 I thought to myself… damn this Global is over modeled!

I personally think that reality overdoes two things quite often: sound volume and glare. I wish they would turn that down a bit.

You see that post on Reddit? LOL…

And perhaps DCS could have a free week or so on a few full fidelity modules?
