I’m trying to get back into DCS after a long hiatus. The VR seems to be working really well, and I’m not sure if it’s the shaders mod, sticking to the driver 457.30 like glue or WMR improvements but it feels great. My impressions after a few months were interesting, and not what I expected:
- The cockpits look fantastic
- The scenery looks awful, like very basic
- The flight model feels fantastic, much better than anything I’ve play in stock MSFS so far (then again, the price comparison isn’t really fair).
- It has weapons, so that’s nice.
Comparing MSFS and DCS is a bit like ‘I want to walk outside for a bit’ and then deciding if you want to play either Doom Eternal or Animal Crossing. For me they don’t really feel they have much in common, despite the bit about ‘flight’ overlapping.
I guess it depends on what you fly as well. Nearly all my time is spent in the A320NX mod, staring at a slide rule and 1000 buttons, trying to program the flight computer. I did a quick VR flight in the Cub with a strong cross wind on new Out Skerries airstrip and it felt pretty good.
