Going from a i7 6700k to a 5900X gave me a bigger than 100% performance boost. I am seriously impressed.
MSFS 2020 not only runs a lot smoother but also looks much nicer at the same time.

For me itās the other way around. I like to explore the world in MSFS every now and then but I always end up flying DCS. I guess civilian flying just doesnāt appeal to me as much.
I am surprised about it actually.
I used to be like that, too.
I will say the Mach Loop in the MB-339 is a hoot, great sense of speed. Throw in a little cloud cover if you really want to up your experience.
Planning on checking it out tomorrow.
Iām trying to get back into DCS after a long hiatus. The VR seems to be working really well, and Iām not sure if itās the shaders mod, sticking to the driver 457.30 like glue or WMR improvements but it feels great. My impressions after a few months were interesting, and not what I expected:
Comparing MSFS and DCS is a bit like āI want to walk outside for a bitā and then deciding if you want to play either Doom Eternal or Animal Crossing. For me they donāt really feel they have much in common, despite the bit about āflightā overlapping.
I guess it depends on what you fly as well. Nearly all my time is spent in the A320NX mod, staring at a slide rule and 1000 buttons, trying to program the flight computer. I did a quick VR flight in the Cub with a strong cross wind on new Out Skerries airstrip and it felt pretty good.
Iām mostly flying the Cessnaās (steam gauges) or the Cub and they do feel alright and are fairly detailed and their slow speed really lets you enjoy the scenery which to be clear looks amazing in areas with photogrammetry. On the other hand the scenery is not consistent and even in the detailed areas it can look very inconsistent down low which DCS actually does really well on the new maps like The Channel and Syria.
But in the end I donāt feel like I achieved anything in MSFS which is something I always enjoy about DCS.
Iāll probably never get into tube liners, just not something I enjoy but yeah, flying around in the Cub or Skyhawk is really nice every now and then.
Yep, agree. DCS has a āmissionā and MSFS just sort of stares back and says āWhat?ā - I think I only gravitated to the tubes because itās system/procedure based so sort of feels like a mini-game in itself.
The only other time I think I enjoyed just putting around was in multiplayer with @BeachAV8R and @Fridge, in that it was fun to go as a group and just land in postage stamp airfields (I think we did South Africa and then the Philippines). I know a lot of people enjoy the cargo āmeta gamesā over the civ stuff.
Actually, speaking of that time @BeachAV8R @Fridge - this sort of look familiar? I think we may have landed there?
Good one.
Yeah, I need a āmissionā I guess, even if itās only to see how close I can get my [manually dropped] iron near the bullseye; stick my thing in a a thing, smoothly; not muck up my trap. And do it all very fast at tree-top level.
I guess I donāt care as much how real the ground āclutterā is as much as how it makes it all feel. And I still canāt run FS2020 in VR smooth enough. When that day comes Iāll crack it open again.
Looking forward to running various VR/IR-Routes in something with a pointy nose that has a good flight model.
I recall, years ago, myself and a buddy were running trails bikes in the middle of nowhere out west. We notice something moving, really fast. below us: a Viper on a VR route. He does the inverted ridge crossing thing about 2kā below us (we were on top of a 13kā mountain). We look at each other and, together, agreed, āNaw, that aināt work. Canāt call that workā. Envious. He was gone in about 60 seconds.
Iām sure someone will release a quality, single-seat, fast-jet soon enough.
Some news on the weird flaps bug that came with the UK update.
The summary seems to be, go edit the config file and we plan to update early in March.
Is that a single file to edit or does each aircraft have itās own?
I think each have their own. The premium ones will be locked unfortunately. The modād ones like the FBW A320NX have already been tweaked.
Example path:
C:\MSFS\Official\OneStore\asobo-aircraft-c172sp-as1000\SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_C172sp_AS1000\flight_model.cfg
lift_coef_flaps = 0.33790
goes to something like divided by 2, so
lift_coef_flaps = 0.16895
I think thatās it anyway.
Thanks Fearless!
No worries, the instructions on the official forum are not great - I was kind of curious to see if there was an easy way, and it looks like people have some better tuned drag/drop mods for the stock aircraft anyway - this might work just as well as it resets those figures anyway:
āLandedāā¦I recall being too hot at one of those strips and just zipping off the endā¦ālalalalaā¦look at meeeeeeeeeā¦ā
Dissapointment of the day: formation flyingā¦
As you might have seen in the MSFS Screenshot threat I went out with a bunch of buddies from my squadron to check out the UK and it really looks awesome. However, coming from DCS Iām very used to flying in close formation and what became clear very quickly is that Asobo never considered that because when I tried to get a nice and tight formation going to make some screenshots we quickly ran into the issue of the dissappearing aircraft. Huge bummer because we all thought that there was still plenty of room to tighten it up but oh wellā¦
Well, you had to be really close to each other since the airplanes start disappearing when they ate about to collide (unless Asobo changed the logic).
Nah, it already starts in the screenshot I posted. Thereās plenty of room left.
Edit:
We planned on doing something like this:
It simply didnāt work
The last update also caused an error in the autogen, it seemingly replaces all tennis courts with pretty large buildings that have orange roofs.
Does anyone know whether that was reported already?
