Microsoft Flight Simulator - Post launch impressions

Photogrammetry has taken a dump on me last several days. :worried: Checked with the FS forums and a good number of people are reporting the same ā€œapocalypticā€, mush looking buildings. I’ve tried everything from low to high settings and everything in between. Autogen is fine, but that’s not what we paid $100+ for. So it’s back to XP until Asobo irons it out. I opened a ticket with their support team as well.

Wow, that’s weird indeed.

:sleepy: This Wednesday I will be upgraded to 500Mbit (only , and the first traffic on it will be my order for the MSFS 2020)

Anyway, your problem is likely not caused by your bandwidth

possible upside is it’s the result of them going under the hood server side, and tweaking and tuning post launch.

I’d be tempted to reset or turn off your rolling cache if you haven’t already - I wonder if the down-graded data got cached and now it’s got it so it’s keeping it

I’ve tried everything except re-installing. It may come to that.

Talking of photogrammetry, I am wondering how well that will work with helicopters when they come to the sim. NYC looks pretty amazing from the air…but if you get down low, at helicopter altitudes, it gets pretty ugly. I’m guessing that we will have to turn the option off, and go with 3rd party scenery for helicopter ops in the larger cities.

Dzrwhiskyfoxtrotalpha DLC will fix that!

You can also turn off photogrammetry and use those blackshark.ai generated buildings which are more detailed from up close.

You mean Drzewiecki? Be glad that Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz didn’t started this software company.

Edit: for anyone not familiar:

OK, I’m almost ready to jump in… just one question is nagging me.

Steam or the Microsoft Store…

Does anyone got some new idea’s about getting MFS from Steam vs Microsoft store ?
Steam’s VR support, if there is any extra for MFS, is the only one I can think of.

Why involve a third party? - is what I was thinking when I bought it from the already installed microsoft store.

My intelligent cellular telephone has a photogramophone of 16 megapixels with stereo.

I use it to update images and sounds on Photogram, the newest 19th century social media app!

I did a few flights today.
Had a ā€œ737max momentā€ in the Baron. The trim kept running away, pitching up more and more even though I trimmed nose down as far as I could and pushed the stick forward.
In fact the nose up momentum was so strong that I had to push the stick forward during taxiing to prevent the tail from hitting the ground…

Is that a known bug?

I’ve got a problem now where any airplane I get into cannot move even at full power. It’s like I’m stuck on the arresting gear. Regardless of whether I start on the ramp or runway, or even if I airstart and land, as soon as I come to a stop, I’m stuck.

Parking brake is off, brake pedal function is checked and working correctly, but cannot taxi or takeoff. :expressionless:

Normally I’d suggest a double-bound key/axis but since I’m guessing you don’t have this in any other planes…

did you maybe have an extra control device connected this time?

I’m sure you’ve thought of these things, just throwing them out there.

What speeds do you taxi at to reach authority to rotate?

:man_shrugging:

I think it’s mostly preference, I went for Steam because of the following:

  • Most of my games are on Steam and I like keeping them together.
  • Using Steam to manage downloads for the install and update. (Nope, downloads after the basic installer managed through the game.)
  • Future Steam VR support.
  • Steam overlay and screenshots.

So…all and all, just a few fairly minor reasons why I went that way. Again, I think it’s mostly personal preference.

That was my first thought, but I hadn’t changed anything. I went through and carefully checked and couldn’t find any double bindings, and the brake pedals appear to work correctly… I dunno.
