Microsoft Flight Simulator - Post launch impressions

Thanks @Easy

For getting the stutters, it unfortunately looks like you’re in good company. It seems a fair amount of people are now getting this recently. Looking down the topic, there doesn’t seem to be a common thread (heh) of hardware etc. Perhaps a server-side thing that certain configs are more susceptible to, as otherwise it just seems so random?

In the real plane there is. In the sim, there is not
at least not in the Baron since I had the same realization yesterday

That’s disappointing for a $70 game. Even FSX had all these landmarks by default from launch, but it seems DLC has erased everyone’s memories of what games were like 16 years ago.

I think that the approach used by Asobo for MSFS, using AI and increasing the skill of the ‘autogen’ systems to give us a more realistic world, means that in some cases, the details are getting missed. As a broad view, MSFS is an amazing graphical achievement but I still think that there is a market for 3rd Parties (like ORBx) to come in a make those detail places better. I think that we have not gotten away from that.

For $70, you have the best world coverage autogen terrain available. In my opinion, that is worth the price. The other systems will come with time.

IMO, blackshark.ai is still in its infancy
and it’s still blowing us away.

Tomorrow they’ll probably think of an algorithm to unsink all the boats in the world LOL! Whatever
 no sweat.

I’m in the same boat. I’m getting longer loading times, degraded terrain and more shuttering, even with a step down in settings. i’m been playing for months and it’s the worst that it’s ever been. I guess my new X56 just arrived in time. :stuck_out_tongue:

Watching his video, he was getting worse pauses than me, but a lot less frequent (last night mine were near continuous, like getting 10fps when FRAPS showed 50). I’m putting some faith in the upcoming patch.

Is there some kind of debug log / console that can be switched on?

a second mono lith and possibly 3rd one found.

aliens are coming.

I still can’t figure out why the Flight Director is decoupled from the attitude indicator much of the time. Like it floats around as if it were partially a velocity vector. It shouldn’t. It should move only relative to the commands it is given or from the NAV data it is receiving (unless it is in an FLC type mode
where it may move a bit more)

It’s nothing like the 787 HUD at all
It’s supposed to look like the X-plane HUD and all green with the declutter mode situated on the yoke.

Airliners in MSFS have a long long way to go.

There is no way my RX580 card will run this. I shouldn’t even try, right?

So it looks like the vertical profile mode of the weather radar is really just a synthetic depiction of the set precip levels that are set in the weather menu. Which is OK
that is good enough as it were. But it isn’t really a radar beam that is scanning up and down relative to the position of your radar antenna - nor can you tilt it up and down to use some geometry to approximate cloud tops. Definitely not a rant, and definitely something that doesn’t even need to be in there, but I was testing it this morning and wanted to see what it was actually doing.

Ah, yes. I could have found that myself. Thank you!

Edit: Wow, it’s powerful! Really happy with it.

Mine does! What other specs do you have?

All I see is people running at VERY HIGH and ULTRA on 1080/20xx type GPUs.

I think the sim can scale down quite well on LOW and MEDIUM, at least the system requirements suggest that. If you can accept long loading times. We all have to.

I am not going to say anything new, so feel free to skip this :upside_down_face:

I got MSFS 2020 yesterday and spent maybe 2-3 hours in it flying around places I know. It is frickin’ amazing :astonished:
