Microsoft Flight Simulator - Post launch impressions

The funny/sad thing about that is that it would still be better terrain than any other sim.

I was about to come in here to ask if it is possible to run some file quantity/quality check for a MSFS install because I did the UK update thingy today and was getting stuck on one of the splash screens and never making it to the GUI. Before I went and asked something stupid…I did have the foresight to go ahead and rename my Community folder so that mods weren’t being loaded…and sure enough, the sim loaded up just fine. Now to add back stuff and see what is triggering the hang.

Is there any way to "easily* fix buildings in the scenery that are obviously not correct? I have three or four buildings in Cochabamba, Bolivia that I’d like to get rid of. They are super-tall skyscrapers that obviously shouldn’t be there. I tried the two scenery fix files that are floating around out there…but they don’t look to address anything in South America.

I’ll leave this to you to determine if this is easy.

@BeachAV8R, just send me the lat / lon coordinates and I will make an exclusion for you.

Mind though, that they will be gone completely. I do not know how to make a default building taller / higher. I am afraid it is still not possible with the current SDK.

In Microsoft FLIGHT many users played tag by attempting to crash into other planes, which the game definitely allowed. ā€œhardcoreā€ simmers were (of course) outraged, and I made an internal bet that if MS ever made another sim, they would likely find some way to keep that from happening.

Fast forward a few years, and…

Yeah that’s pretty easy.

Meanwhile my scenery is growing, and I got back into 3D modeling after 15 years or so (last time I was still in college) because there are a few buildings that just don’t fit and have to be replaced.

There is a nice addon for blender which makes modeling buildings super quick btw. Right now I am in the process of getting the whole workflow down. (I hope UV mapping is easier now, it used to suck back in the days. Or let’s say it this way: I sucked at it.)

How are you guys doing textures? I think I can figure out Blender and 3D, but the textures and night textures are problematic for me.

I understand why they’re doing it but at the same time I wish there was an option to define a group of friends that don’t fade out and have a collision model.

I suspect that with the way the world is now, any hint of that, for whatever reason, would have somebody screaming about Microsoft terrorist trainer. :yum:

So far? Not at all.
But I am planning to do them following this tutorial:

What addon is that?

I am slowly ramping up my drive to restart a couple of Assetto Corsa track builds and they will also need buildings.
Anything to make the job easier would be helpful and appreciated.

Happy Simming
