Very much looking forward to this. I used to play Dangerous Waters a hell of a lot and really miss that simulation. Glad to see I’ll be able to scratch my “submarine itch” again.

Will this come with a big beefy manual? Let’s be honest, it will be the definitive thing to make me wave my wallet here.

Looks like the engine may have the ability to support other Naval assets in the future, I want to hunt subs from my P-8 or P-3 again!

Excellent thank you. I saw on their discord it’s something to do with Steam approval that’s holding the release up.

Steam is having a sale with Sea Power and Cold Waters now, might be related to the delay

Looking at the Steam store page now.

I was hoping to be sipping my morning coffee while it was downloading. Release has changed from 19 May to ‘Coming Soon’…

OK, first world problem, but very disappointment. At least I have my coffee and the manuals should keep me occupied for a while. Thanks @Sryan

It’s a technical thing, Steam invalidated something they did on the back-end and it’s gonna be a few hours before they get to try releasing the game again. Best to get on with the day and check back in a few hours or tomorrow, depending on time zone or obligations.

Hello Everyone,

Another update on my end - Unfortunately some changes we had to make to the Early Access release meant our previous store page approval was invalidated, and we needed review again.

This unfortunately hasn’t happened in time, so we’re unable to release today. Once we get processed in the review queue we’re confident the game will launch into deep waters and be released. It’s really only a matter of hours, not a long delay.

We deeply apologise for the disappointing news and wanted to ensure as much visibility on the cause of the issue as possible.

We value the community and your trust, we hope to be back tomorrow with better news.

Saw these pop over on the MNW discord. Haven’t had a chance to watch any of them yet. They’re all just a couple of minutes long, so I’m assuming these are “where to click” versus “when and why” type videos.

and this also dropped from Jive Turkey:

The delay may extend for a few more days.. Very odd for this sort of stuff to happen but we should have it by the weekend at least.

Hello everyone,

Another update for you - we’re still unfortunately on standby waiting for review and approval into Early Access. To help with full transparency and help answer some of your questions. We wanted to share with you that according to maximum estimated timelines given, the latest time of release will be Thursday.

We understand the severity of delays and impact that has on our community following the game. We understand the frustration people have shared. While the situation is far from ideal, the response shows a community that cares and are eager to see what the game can do - which is a very privileged and exciting position to be in. We thank you for all your responses and apologise again for our mistakes.

While it’s been troubled waters to start with, Modern Naval Warfare is an incredibly deep sim (excuse the shameless pun) - and there is plenty more to come past Early Access release…with things like multiplayer being actively worked on and part of our roadmap. Once we get the green light and release the kraken, we look forward to hearing more from you all.

From a quick poke around I wouldn’t be shocked if it was related to the initial EA release not having any enemy AI included? Steam might want that stressed a bit more in the EA description, otherwise the initial returns/refunds would be high. It’s fine to release in that state, just as long as people are super clear on what they are getting.

FYI, the link to the manuals has been updated with one more 98 page-long PDF, mostly about submarine history, doctrine, design and relevant physics

We owe you another update - and another apology.

As many of you saw from my previous messages the game was set for review by Thursday, and was unfortunately rejected during review and sent back for another approval pass. That follow-up review period is now underway.

We know this is especially frustrating because we previously shared Thursday as the latest expected release window, and that has now passed. That expectation was based on the timelines we were given at the time, but ultimately we should have been more careful about presenting it with that level of confidence in the initial postings.

We understand some people are tired of waiting and tired of shifting timelines. At this point, we’d rather be straightforward with you than try to soften it with marketing language or promises we can’t fully guarantee yet.

The important part is that development itself is not the issue here. The game is ready for Early Access, the dev team is ready, and we’re actively responding to anything required during the review process as quickly as possible. I would also like to make clear the delays and issues with the approval are through our mistakes.

We genuinely appreciate everyone who has continued to stick around, ask questions, and support the project despite a rough launch lead-up. We’ll continue updating you as soon as we have concrete news and ideally, next time that update comes with a release button instead of another delay message from me.

Thank you again for your patience.

It’s out now:

Quite a price tag for Early Access, and I wonder if there’s really no enemy AI?

Yikes!!!…bit too much for my budget right now…maybe down the line on a Steam sale,These types of games get much more play/time in the Cold Winter months for me anyway

Very steep price indeed.. But these sort of games come by once a decade if we are lucky. So I’ll gladly go for the bait. It’ll be some time before I can do proper deep dive into it though. I don’t appear to be able to give any command to the AI crewmen, and they took no effort to track or mark anything..

who, me? I’m just browsing mudspike

As for the enemy AI? They had no qualms blasting me with the active sonar (I had thought a convoy hunt would be an okay starting place). When my ears were ringing properly, it was already time to go for the day. Besides that I can only say the perfomance is kinda rough (25-90FPS..), it doesn’t look that amazing imo and the dive computer can go a bit haywire (70 degree pitch for 150ft depth correction..). will investigate further but expect serious roughness
