The Quest 3 seems to be a great middle of the road headset. GREAT optics with it’s pancake lenses and I like the fact you can use it untethered…but you will need a replacement head strap, preferably one with a battery pack. For what I have spent on addon enhancements, I probably could have gone with the Crystal Light for little difference in ‘investment’.
I haven’t spent much time with the Kiowa, but the time I have spent flying it was fun.
Hopefully I have fulfilled my duty as a Bad Influencer!
I’m jealous. According to steam I’ve played for four hours. I guess three hours of those spending in a queue, while playing and modding DCS. I have yet to see the main menu…
I must have been lucky. I got the game downloaded, mid-morning, at 70 to 100Mb. Connected and did some tourist flights in the C172 and a Cub with almost zero delay.
Got out of the plane and walked around. Scenery at the up-close level is so very far ahead of the FSX days.
VIdeo and performance was decent, given my low specs.
I got in for a short while and poked around at the UI a little. Then exited to move the Community folder location to a drive with more space than C:. That took a couple of minutes, but of course I couldn’t get back in for the rest of the night
I am in Japan and away from the XBOX. Guess that is a good thing given the struggles. I am curious about the performance on the console but I s’pose I’ll need to look elsewhere for early xbox impressions.
I managed to get another flight in. I flew the Sky Crane around the Mach Loop (slowly ).
Things that jump out at me are :
The scenery is more detailed. Textures seem to sharpen as you get closer to a terrain feature, but not with a sudden pop…more of a subtle change that is easy on the eyes. Terrain popping seems minimal too which was a surprise to me.
The water is much better where it meets land.
Trees are varied and appropriate for the season and location.
It was neat to see livestock in the fields.
It all looked great in VR.
Force Feedback for my Moza AB9 was working nicely, at least in the Sky Crane.
I made the mistake of exiting the program, and so I am now back in line to get back in…
Finally got in and some stick time with it… Pretty much the same thing as 2020, but cleaner and more detailed. Just give them time to fix the issues first.
I still think it is idiotic for people to review bomb the game into Oblivion on Steam.
It has now become one of the worst received games of all times, which it probably doesn’t deserve.
It’s not bad on my Series S. Flying with controller in the light aircraft so far has been workable. It’s been a few years since I flew FS… but I did have a surprising amount of float while trying to flare the first time.
Video isn’t going to win any awards on Series S, but it’s workable. Conveys a sense of place better than FSX auto-gen scenery.
It’s not. I installed yesterday and didn’t have time to fire it up until this afternoon.
First load was a pain as the mouse cursor didn’t work. Quick google (use keyboard commands tab and space to navigate) and all was ok.
5 minute load to install packages, then into the game.
First flight over my house was underwhelming just tiled pictures mapped over the terrain. No trees or buildings.
Dropping into the content folder my packages hadn’t been loaded/installed. Again Google helps out and it’s a known bug that you have to close the game and restart.
I couldn’t get into the game on PC so fired up my XBox Series X and played a bit on the console. It works mostly fine though I had already 2 crashes (doesn’t happen often to games running on consoles). Flew few Career missions and checked out some of the new aircraft. The autogyro is pretty cool, but you can’t do some more severe maneuvers as in real life (had the flight model set to realistic).
The game will be really good when they work out the infrastructure problems with the servers. I guess it’s better to just chill out and wait. In the meantime STALKER 2 has been released. Almost finished downloading
