not bad … just sounds fun
I’d say the Steam review is just frustration of not being able to get it to run.
First day hiccup I hope.
The question is: how much better is it in comparison to MSFS 2020?
Indeed!
But I find it quite interesting in the “nothing new under the sun” kind of way…

Everybody loves to trash ED for every delay or bugged early access release. Well, maybe this isn’t as easy as people seem to believe…?

MS and Asobo sort of created Frankensteins Monster here. MSFS2020 has been very successful and attracted many new flightsimmers, many of who haven’t seen many flightsim releases and don’t even know the meaning of two weeks™. Naturally they are unimpressed with the current state of MSFS2024.
But like most Mudspikers, I’ve been around this block a few times before and I’ve reached an age where I relate to my friend Mr. @chipwich ‘s statement above. But most new flightsimmers have no idea what we’re talking about…
Fixed that for you
By now I’ve basically given up. Yesterday it wouldn’t even let me in the game, for most of the time. Today I’m stuck with dowloading between 0 and 100 Mbps whatever the game needs. According to steam I’ve tried for 7.7 hours to get this going, and I haven’t flown a single second of those. Maybe I’ll join the steam review nuke crowd instead.
I am so glad I held off. Going to give it a few weeks before checking it out via game pass.
I’m just glad I don’t use Steam unless I am forced to (…looking at you VTOL VR)!
I haven’t actually bought it yet.
I’d rather use the free time I have to run the stable sim with the aircraft/airports/services I already have running, rather than lose time to launch week shenanigans.
I’m sure I’ll get in a couple weeks or so once some patches have come out, but for now I’m happy finishing out the Christmas flights in 2020.
It seems to be working quite well today. I haven’t had any trouble at all.
Nevermind…it was an ACTUAL sim not THE sim… jeez…
I take no responsibility for that!
So now for your shopping list…
The headset strap I went with is the BOBOVR S3 Pro. It has battery packs which have the added bonus of acting as a counter balance. 1 battery comes with the strap and I picked up an additional one along with the battery charging station. The nice thing with this setup is that you can hot-swap batteries as needed.
I don’t know what kind of router you are using, but if wireless performance isn’t great then I can recommend the PrismXR Pupis S1 which is basically a dedicated wireless bridge to your PC for VR use.
You will also need to purchase Virtual Desktop on the Meta App store (in the headset) and install the PC streamer app.
I just moved my first 2020 Community Folder items over to 2024. OrbX’s Orcas Island and Anacortes airports. Both seem to work just fine.
I just booted up FS2024 and received a message to restart to access your FS2020 items that have been brought over. Going to mix a gin and tonic if it is that easy.
It’s that easy for the items you purchased from the Marketplace. You have to copy things across manually for the community folder items. Easy enough to do though, once you have found the new folder. G&T does sound good right now. I’m on a 3 month dry streak though, and I’m finding it hard to break it (the complete opposite of what I would expect)…
all the people after writing bad reviews just quit the genre
And late in the evening at around 11pm everything fell into place and I did my first flight with the Texan from Ramstein over Kaiserslautern and back to Ramstein. It does look pretty! And it’s been fun flying around, finally. Pheew, was really unnerved with these problems.
It’s a big jump from the quest 2, but would advise getting a better aftermarket head strap …I got a cheap £20 one from Amazon
Made a massive difference in comfort
I got both the Ju-52 and FW-200 in my FS2020 library, purchased via marketplace, but I don’t see them in FS2024 yet. Anyone knows if they will “land” soonish or at all? I got the message that after the next restart my marketplace content would be available, but these planes are not.
