I guess that youāre not working for the CIA, err State Department in that livery
Not quite Orbx quality, but itāll have to do for the time being. Wait, yours looks better than mine.
I just missed you at Bella Coola Danā¦ I saw you log off. Oh, and yes, looks like you are seeing the generic airport there.
Might check that the folder is not nested in another folder. Some add-ons you have two folders after unzippingā¦
Yep. Had most of my mods in the wrong folders. Have the paradigm now. Sure is dark up here at noon!
Darn. Much to learn about this sim on my part. Have to get to bed now, so see you another time Paul.
Iām calling it a night too. . Hope to catch you online soon though.
Troll had the alarm set to 03:00 local and really wanted to stay in bed himselfā¦
Welcome to the real world of the BN2 in the Shetland Islands
Hey, all. I am Alex, some of you may remember me as EECH dev, but right now I am trying to do various things in MSFS. You may say itās boring as there you canāt fly helicopters or shoot anyone. I could say - yet.
So results of my experiments:
- MSFS Legacy importer - simplest way to migrate FSX aircraft into MSFS. Still not so simple as it should be, as require manual fixes, but at the moment a lot of tutorials exists. So you can import not only visuals and flight model, but also instruments like HUD, or afterburners (which does not supported officially). No helicopters though.
- Kinetic Assistant - it is SimConnect tool, attempt to add into the game missing functionality. Capabilities still limited (a lot of variables disabled or read-only), but still possible to do some interesting things - this one supports aircraft carrier arresting gear and launchpad (without animation actually, so not super realistic but fun), and gliders winch (currently only fair way to get glider into the air). In plans many other things that will get inside of my head in the process.
Hey @thealx - great to see you again! Your work on EECH is legendary. Cool that you have found ways to improve MFSF. Iād love to hear what kinds of success you and users of your Legacy importer tool have hadā¦!
I think Iām going to have to give the importer a try. Do you have to have FSX installed for it to work?
A carrier module for MSFS, sort of. A for-pay add-on, so Iāve not checked it out.
Sink rate?
Hard Deck Simulations Carrier Module
The carrier module is the first aircraft carrier with functioning catapults and arrestor cables made for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
We set out to design a beautiful and functional aircraft carrier to be used with the vast number of military aircraft addons slated to launch for MSFS. The module was written in such a way that any aircraft, stock or addon, can use the catapults and arrestor cables without any modification to the aircraft itself. The carriers work great in multiplayer.
The carrier module includes two components included in a simple self-installer:
- Scenery - 5 static, detailed Nimitz Class aircraft carriers positioned around the world
- Software - HDS Carrier Module to enable catapult and arrestor cable functionality
This addon does not include any aircraft, however, it works with any stock or addon aircraft you already have.
The addon is simple to use. Once installed you simply run the HDS Carrier Module software in the background while you fly.
Catapult Launch - CRASHES MUST BE DISABLED
The add-on detects when you are lined up for a catapult launch. Your launch speed is automatically calculated based on the physics of your aircraft, meaning the module works with every aircraft from a Cessna to fighter jets to 747s. To launch the aircraft you simply set the parking brake, set full thrust, and release the parking brake to be launch off the deck.
Arrestor Cable Landing
Due to the current limitations of the SDK provided by Microsoft, tailhooks are not yet supported in the game. HDS Carrier Module currently assumes your tailhook is extended at all times (we will update this as the SDK improves). To trigger an arrestor cable landing, simply line up with the runway, and land within the arrestor cables. HDS physics simulates the arrestor cable physics to bring the aircraft to a stop.
Aircraft carriers have been positioned in various locations around the globe. Over time more locations may be added as we continue to update the addon.
- Key west - ICAO: CAR1
- San Fransisco (270 at 5 miles) - ICAO: CAR2
- New York - ICAO: CAR3
- Gibraltar - ICAO: CAR4
- Dubai - ICAO: CAR5
Current limitations due to the MSFS SDK. We hope to add these features as the SDK from Microsoft matures over time:
- Carriers must be placed as static scenery and can not be dynamically spawned by the user
- Carriers are static and do not move. This is a limitation of the capabilities of placing AI objects in the current SDK. This is highest on our list of new features.
- Animations - Jet blast doors and cables cannot be dynamically animated yet
- Tailhooks are not currently implemented. To work around this it is assumed your tailhook is always down.
- It is currently impossible to add runway lights to the carrier. This will be updated once the SDK is more mature

Only if AC uses default gauges, but that is not very common. so usually not.
But if you are going to use ModelConverterX (FSX model editing tool that can fix glass transparency issue for example), you will need FSX SDK, which part of the game.
Ok, thanks. Iām downloading the Steam edition right now. Iāll pull a couple of aircraft down from simviation as test subjects.
You can check Brett Plays YT channel, this guy converting all planes he have and explains issues which happen in the process. may save some of your time.
Greatā¦ I guess I should start there then. Iām looking forward to learning how to do this.
Soā¦ Iāve always wanted to fly a Buccaneer! At first glance the instrumentation seems to be working. Sheās flyable, flaps and speedbrake work. Unfortunately there is something that causes a CTD if I try to fly her in VR. Iāll try a couple of other aircraft and see how they fare. Any idea on the VR issue @thealx ? Regardless, this is awesome!
Nice to see you get it work quickly.
I have bad news for you. VR does not like MDL (legacy) cockpits, any portover crashing the game. We donāt know the reason yet, maybe cockpit scene missing some simple thing like extra viewpoint. But developers ignore any legacy tickets so do not expect it will be fixed soon.
It still possible to convert model into new format, but only manually - if you have modelling experience, it may take several dozens of hours maybe.
