Now that looks like a wonderful addon for things like the Xmas flight.
Its milkshake brings all the girls to the yardâŠ

Yeah, I donât think Pappy had it quite as good as Robert Conrad. ![]()
Understatement of the year LOL.

LOL, yeah I just meant the convenient bevy of Farrah Fawcet nurses hanging around the island.
But that too!
Wasserkuppe is legendary.
I have a freeware one thatâs also decent but this one looks great!
Iâve got the Aerosoftâs rendition and it is indeed very nice. The free version is not bad at all but the Aerosoftâs one includes also orthoimagery which blends nicely with the base sim. There is no ortho around Wasserkuppe in the base sim.
I always had that problem as well!
Thanks for pushing me into the Wikipedia hole by the way. Not knowing anything but a bit of cursory Boyington info I dove into reading a bit about him on the internet. Fascinating stuff. I guess Iâm a moron because I didnât really know that the Flying Tigers were not really a U.S. military unit. Really cool history thereâŠand his success in the Pacific theater was amazing. He definitely sounded like a true personalityâŠhe probably wouldnât last five minutes in the military today ![]()
To think - I learned to fly at Quantico MCAS and might have seen and used the same VFR reporting points that Pappy did. Neat. Wiki said he was part of Aircraft One, Fleet Marine Force at Quantico - was this a fixed wing equivalent of Marine One that transports the president? I canât see any history of it onlineâŠ
He joined the Flying Tigers because he had too much personality for the military even back then.
Wheels
If I recall, the very first, and few in number, naval squadrons were numbered in the unusually sensible 1,2,3⊠format.
So my old squadron, VMA-211 (A for Attack, now VMFA-211, FA for Fighter Attack) started out as VF-4M before July 1941 and was then redesignated VMF-211. They seem to have moved M for Marine units.
For all that, it seems like VF-2M was established in Quantico and became what HMX-1 (Callsign Marine 1 with the pres present) still is; an experimental/showpiece squadron.
AFAIK there is no fixed wing analog to HMX-1 today, though there are Marines researching and teaching Marine things at Pax River, China Lake, and Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1) out in MCAS Yuma.
I recently listened to Baa Baa Black Sheep on audiobook after many years. If I remember correctly, it sounded like Pappy, as well as many career military aviators of the time, had his hands in all manner of aviation interests. He flew in air races, took part in many demonstrations and trials.
It must have been an incredible time to be in aviation. Though sometimes short.
Wow. Lienz flugplatz in Southern Austria just got released.
https://flightsim.to/file/12465/lokl-lienz-nikolsdorf-airport-austria
I visited it around 20 years ago, as my family was driving by on vacation.
This is a great representation of it. I was actually researching this airport a few weeks back, to see about upgrading it in FS2020. Iâm glad I didnât waste my efforts.
If you guys like mountain flying, you should try this. You can either take off from here and go north to Zell am See, St. Johan/Tirol, or Innsbruck. (All of which have addons at flightsim.to If you go north, you will pass by Gross Glockner. The highest point in Austria. There is a road leading from Lienz to Zell am See, known as the Gross Glockner Strasse. Very, very scenic. It would be worth a flight.
Or, you can go south to Bolzano in Italy and pass through the Dolomites. Bolzano is another airport found with a scenery enhancement at flightsim.to
I have just spotted this in the JustFlightâs Arrow III forum:
v0.4.0 (pending release)
- PMS50 GTN 750 integration added
âŠ
and started to google to find this:
Interesting! Anyone tried the beta yet?
@BeachAV8R, you need to add that to your Audible library.
The Freeware Vertigo Open Beta has started, and the link for it can be found on the GotGravel discord
GOT GRAVEL DISCORD SERVER
Search under development/vertigo-beta-download
I think I actually assisted with the layout of the circling lights, for that one. ![]()
