The problem is that in msfs world (…fs2000,…, FSX, ….P3D(not MS but the core is there)) because the community is bigger, whatever “thing” (to not say the correct words) that can sell, will be payware.
Ofc, always exist good and bad payware of xp and msfs world, but the biggest jokes sadly are in msfs as the same because what mentioned, very rare, almost never you have top class quality aircraft for free on msfs type of sims. Exist some giveaways, free for limited time etc, but products that are very very good quality and fully free you see more times of xp world than msfs.
Sorry, these relief of feelings but, yeah, its what happens… I go crazy when i see products with stupidly low quality released nowadays for 10-15usd for sims like p3d, fsx, xp11 (usually, more to the first 2)
yes, the video even says explicitly to NOT buy it for now! It’s like i mentioned in my previous post, every “thing” go to sale on msfs sims. Everyone wants a slice of the cake, it really makes me mad to see this kind of addons when in 2020, and for this kind of visual quality of simulator, the ailerons and elevators are NOT animated and some textures in very poor quality! Really?!? Imho this is not even acceptable as freeware. When something is released even for free it requires a minimum of quality.
About stupid selling addons remember the other airfield from mentioned above were its only a small airfield without any exceptional detail, but because its for msfs, booooom lets request money for it.
More I see these addons and others with really good quality, more I remember the 1000s of other evangelists of MSFS20, when for months before release, constantly saying with some kind of naif and sometimes overhyped feelings that msfs20 will be the best in everything and they never more need to buy any other addon for it because msfs will be perfect in everything…LOLOL
Even traffic requires a good 3rd party addon to get ride of that fake liveries and some airliners were you not have so many INOP functions. As always expected, msfs will be a flood of paywares, even navigraph is already testing in beta, so? were is the “we never need anymore 3rd party nav databases cycles updates because the msfs20 will have all this included and all 3rd party companies will all die, bla bla bla…” ?
True. it seems like a big money grab for developers to release less than default aircraft quality add-ons for such a beautiful sim. But there are plenty of low quality 3rd party aircraft for X-Plane. Just take a stroll through the Org store and you will see many which appear designed for XP7 or XP8. including those included with the sim. Caveat emptor in both cases.
Yeah, I’d not say it bothers me these days, so much as I just roll my eyes at it. It’s not like any of the poor quality aircraft are being forced upon us, and its not like a dev can call “dibs” on a given aircraft.
If anything, Im more disappointed in Carenado for their rushed “FIRST POST” launch of the G1K equipped 182. I’d hoped they were above that.
All of this also owes to the SDK for aircraft apparently being a hot mess at the moment. I think it’ll be a while before any meaningful aircraft show up, as a result.
This one in particular disappointed me too. I love Carenado aircraft…the Cessna 185F, Cessna 207, and Do228 are among my favorites in X-Plane and P3D. Their decision to drop that 182 in the MSFS market can only have negative impacts.
First, we have a bunch of new blood taking MSFS for a spin for the first time ever. A small percentage of those people might end up become flight sim addicts and joining us in this crazy hobby. Their first taste of what is supposed to be quality DLC looks like a copy/paste of the already poor G1000 that is part of the default sim. That will really leave a bad impression.
Second - it pisses of fans of Carenado like me because their misstep might give those new users a reason to back out of the sim…and that hurts all of us, and hurts the chance for MSFS to really grow and become successful.
A portion of this blame should be assigned to Asobo or MS or whoever approves what goes in the official in game market. Someone should vet the entries and there should be a quality standard or expectation they should have to meet. I don’t care if things are $5…if they are crap, they shouldn’t be in there. There are other clearinghouse sim sites on the internet where the bottom feeders can try to sell their add-ons - the MSFS in game store should be a showcase for high quality add-ons.
At this point, Carenado should give a freebie to those that bought the 182 (was it $29??) for one of their better aircraft when one comes out down the road. It would go a fair bit toward repairing the damage.
I hear you, but this one is tricky; establishing the quality criteria would be difficult. Even then, it’s likely that something like the 182 still makes it in. If you think about it, it has the basics: a generally functioning cockpit, animated controls, etc. One could argue it would be hypocritical for MS/Asobo to deny that sort of product entry, when it is essentially the same quality (or lack thereof…) of the default planes. Outside of the product being malicious software, fraudulent (ie stealing another person’s work), or incapable of running in the sim, I’d counter that Asobo should play neutral and let the market decide.
Keep on mind that MS/Asobo also are in a different position ‘politically’ than online stores. Where as the Simmarkets and FSpilotshops, and [wink] PCAviators of the world are free to actively curate their collection of digital wares, and weed out the duds, MS/Asobo need to be neutral and open, lest they get accused of playing favorites.
that being said, I do agree that pollution of the in-game store is going to become a very real turn off. A good middle ground would be active curation and maintenance (and eventually a UI overhaul) of the “Featured Product” page. This allows them to endorse products on a looser set of criteria; “we’ll know a good one when we see it”, while still being open about what’s let into the marketplace.
Also, it’s hindsight now, but pushing the in-game store launch back about 6 months would have been advisable. For lots of new-comers, it’s possibly lost on them all the scenery items in there are third-party, and it likely rankels a bit to drop up to $120USD on a title that tauts it’s game-changing scenery engine as a key selling point…only to be greeted with the ‘opportunity’ to buy more scenery on day one.
“it likely rankels a bit to drop up to $120USD on a title that tauts it’s game-changing scenery engine as a key selling point…only to be greeted with the ‘opportunity’ to buy more scenery on day one.”
Exactly this that mentioned above, I really would like to listen the old msfs20 evangelists what they say now about msfs20 never need 3rd party sceneries… And also if you see in steam store, may people review bomb in a mad way, games that release with tons of DLCs on day zero. A throttle down of addons on ms marketplace will be not a bad idea specially for lazy made addons
Another thing is that in this speed and that everyone want to sell even their 3D dog house to create a more detail house’s backyard, soon that marketplace will be sloooooooooow like hell when you want to scroll through the addons. It isn’t really looks a very much optimized gui menu to deal with 1000 addons like when you scroll x-plane.org or simmarket. Sometimes even scrolling their +/- 20 products you feel that scroll is not as smooth because pics as you can scroll 100s on x-plane.org
I agree it is a bit tricky…perhaps a rating system would be good (is there one?)…
Well, the proportion of money you are spending ($30) versus having 30 or so similarly outfitted planes means that you are getting way value for the money when buying the sim (+ world + weather). So that $30 should really set the aircraft apart from the default aircraft in my opinion.
I just can see a situation where Taburet spams 100 products into the store of horrible quality and we have to wade through the selections as if we were in the Arma Steam Workshop (shudder)…
The crazy thing is - Carenado IS a quality 3rd party provider…but they really shot themselves in the foot with that first offering. People have short memories though (me included) and hopefully they will get back to offering a better quality product that surpasses the default aircraft. I’ll be interested to see if they can even do 2D pop up menus for configurations and stuff like that…I guess anything is possible.
There is. And both DLC aircraft have low ratings. There are some reasonably decent filters in the store as well so that wading through a ton of junk will hopefully never happen (unless you’re looking for that gem you didn’t know you wanted until you saw it). I’m personally not expecting anything of quality to be produced until early 2021.
I want a DC 3 ASAP. As someone who has ever payed for DCS content and used freeware for xplane is there really such a difference between stock planes that ship with the sim over 3rd party ones. What makes them stand out?
Generally yes, you get what you pay for but there are exceptions. There are some freeware aircraft that are real gems, and some payware aircraft that are not great.
For the record several days ago, just after I downloaded this one and gave it a few tries (surprisingly good) I found there was a bit of a stir going on about it at Avsim from the original developer:
