That’s… 747 gauges… Amazing.
Anyway, Captain Sim has decided that FSLabs being the worst developer around is not good enough, they are now claiming any livery created for the triple is their copyrighted work which obviously holds no water yet they try!

Well, I won’t be buying this product. Seems like they are intent on shooting themselves in both feet (evidently one foot wasn’t enough).
After an afternoon of frustrating FPS crashes in DCS, I jumped over to MSFS and did some VR sightseeing in the Edgley Optica. The latest version, 1.2 I believe, is a big improvement in flight characteristics over the first version I’d had (unsure of version). 100% recommended.
Thanks! I’ve seen the plane but haven’t tried it yet.
Yeah, not quite sure what is to be gained from this policy? I guess pull people into their walled garden “ACE” thing? Also possibly monetize livery packs. Deeply short sighted.
Honestly, by most accounts so far, this is not radically different than the available freeware offerings, except that they’ve gone to the effort to exclude mesh around airports so as not to screw them up, and that they take special care at the borders of the country so as to not to cause Spikes/holes etc.
This may or may not make the asking price, a very reasonable (I think) 9.99 USD worth it, to some.
The meshes look great…
…on static pictures. When seen in motion on screen, there is quite heavy terrain morphing when getting closer to terrain (especially in mountains and sharp edges terrain).
This is also the case in the video, even though not so much as there are few moments of flight close to terrain.
Their website claims that:
Speaking of DEM mods, here is a heads-up for them’s which is not keeping track!
This scenery https://flightsim.to/file/848/iceland-overhaul
Has been updated to fix any compatibility issues with this mod and Mikeaat’s Iceland 20m DEM mod. https://flightsim.to/file/15029/iceland-20m-dem-high-resolution-terrain-elevation-data-from-lidar-imaging
Any terrain issues that remain when using both mods are an issue with the DEM mod and not a compatibility issue between both mods.
Thanks HiFlyer
FSDT has my trust, they did LSZH and I like it.
I’ll buy this because:
I hope small parts of southwest Germany are included. That would be awesome. The black forrest area mainly.
Ha! They must have some tricks up their sleeves!
The last two days I was “playing” with the DEM data too and the terrain morphing really is a bugger.
By a coincidence, my DEM experimentation concerned the archipelago of Vestmannaeyjar (BIVM; say it fast three times ) in Iceland.
The terrain spikes introduced by the 20m DEM mesh are quite horrendous over there (checked the underlying DEM raster and yes - the problem lies there) and unfortunately the latest Iceland Overhaul does not address them (as being a problem of the mesh):
I got rid of the spikes but the terrain morphing is there, of course.
I edited also the profile of the runway and compiled the whole island of Vestmannaeyjar to 10m and will get in touch with the authors of the mesh and Iceland Overhaul to see whether they’d include it in their work.
If not, I would probably release it as a sand-alone mod since the BIVM is a fantastic destination.
Honorable freeware mention
Toolbar Pushback gives you full control over your pushback! Control the tug direction with your rudder pedals, joystick, keyboard or mouse and steplessly adjust the tug speed to your liking. All natively from within Flight Simulator without the need for running any apps or alt tabbing out of the sim. Additionally, ground services can be called with a click of a button. Works with all types of aircraft.
Well, if you are fond of that area, you might like this, if you don’t already have it…

Sooo… no.
As Umberto stated in a thread on Avsim, they use the same heightmap approach as the latest freeware meshes on flightsim.to and the same one I was playing with (they essentially use the same tool to produce the mesh as the freeware community).
So the terrain morphing is there still at least to some extent.
What has to make a difference to “my” Vestmannaeyjar scenery is the relative difference of default vs newly produced mesh - defining the extent of morphing.
Btw. I really have to appreciate the depth of information he provided the community in the thread and also worth noting is his explanation of the advantage of their Swiss mesh product vs the freeware version out there (further down in the thread) - basically the source data and blending on the borders.
Once again, I thank Mudspike for continuing to make me poorer.
I made my first flight in MSFS and was blown away. VFR flying was just spot on. I literally tracked my drive home, from the air. Even found my house, which is represented properly.
So now some add-on questions.
I searched and didnt see anything on AREX North America. I was using Live ATC/Weather and heard Allegiant taxi and depart, but the skins were wrong. Is this a recommended add-on?
I’ll probably snag the L-19 and a warbird. Leaning toward the Spitfire.
Thanks!
Jeff
The whole AI/real world traffic system is still pretty much a WIP, it gets a bit better with every version it seems.
So I am not sure whether to recommend a possible addon or not.
Right now, I’d say that the Corsair is the best warbird available, but the FlyingIron Spit is very good. You have to manage the engine properly on both aircraft or you become a (not very good) glider in fairly short order.
