I sort of look at it another way…I try not to have my monthly expenses grow so large that a few months off from flying will drain my funds. That means keeping an eye on your bases and make sure you don’t open expensive ones…and perhaps canceling insurance on planes if you are going to idle them. I think too there is an ACTIVATE/DEACTIVATE your base option…which isn’t the same as closing/opening that is more affordable…for instance to CLOSE KPDX it costs 260K, but to deactivate it is only about 95K. I think that terminates the monthly lease cost (?)…
The grind was kind of appealing to me…I enjoyed my development of my fleet. Yes, it took hundreds of hours…but that was pretty fun. Right now I’m sitting on $51M and can let the program sit for a long time without worry… And I’m at the point now where a single C-17 flight earns millions.
I’m not saying thats a bad feature, the lack of a more casual way is the big problem. Because when i have xp11 with 100s of birds, p3d with 10s of addons, msfs with many addons, il2 BoX, f4 bms, psx, condor, dcs well feeded with addons, also truck, bus, racing, motorcycles, train sims … (my steam account have more than 700 games…) that obligation is too much
Yeah i need days of 240 hours
I fear that the critical mass may have been reached. MSFS now has a user base in the millions. There is little reason to develop for XP when there are far more customers to be found at the competing sim. An added benefit is that many of those customers are new and don’t have all the bitter baggage that might place barriers to buying new and shiny stuff.
Betamax is better!
Yes it may well be better. But the people have spoken.
Exactly what I did once I figured out how passenger routes work. Took out a big enough loan to get a pair of King Air’s, set up some short haul passenger routes, and let it run. I was making about 25K or so a day.
@BeachAV8R Not to worry - they are adding a govt bailout functionality on the next patch so you just need to stay afloat until then and play the lobbying mini game…
I’m about to go on the road for a couple of days, so I can’t say I have tested this one myself. It looks like it could be pretty good, and I will most likely pick it up when I get home.
The F-8 Crusader reminds me of the old Buck Danny ( and @JerryTumbler ) stories I used to read as a child… Especially the one with the mystery planes in the Arctic really stuck with me. The comic books were already 40+ years old by then but somehow the Crusader made more of an impression than the Hornet.
And on top of that, it has served for an incredibly long time with the coolest flying armed force in the world: the only Fleet Air Arm in Europe with a full carrier, including supersonic interceptors, strike and AWACS. (Yes, Brits, VTOL is cool but it’s not the same as a full CATOBAR).
I am a massive fanboy of the F-8 and almost bought this on sight. But outside DCS, there are many planes you can buy for $35 or more that are of questionable quality so I am really trying to hold back.
Also I already have way too much to do. I’ll buy it sometime this winter, probably.
Hoping @PaulRix can give some impressions before then
