SimConnect desktop tool that applies some magic to keep helicopter in the air

I’m not really what you would call a copter fan. But I’m glad that the people who are, are getting some options, without having to wait until Asobo itself releases something, hopefully next year.

Duxford… a bittersweet place for me personally, but I have some great memories of the place back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.

This looks amazing for a freeware project.

Looks like https://flightsim.to realized they need a business model for all that bandwidth.

Some sort of queue to just read the site? That’ll kill it. On to the next grow-fast-free, monetize-later site…

Or it’s some sort of ddos protection, or a problem with their webhost

Maybe, although there’s lots of cheap/free DDOS protection available that doesn’t require a queue like that. The IP of the wait page is ironically the same as their regular servers, so it’s weird if a temporary host problem - it sort of indicates a constraint around the downloads/bandwidth rather than viewing. Let’s see if they do a membership scheme to bypass this, as that would be the logical next step. Sort of reminiscent of the image/photo hosting sites…

It looks like the site is down completely now.

It looks back, but without the queue. I think it requires an account to download now, although that might not be new (can’t remember).

Ah, here it is - Premium Memberships. Seems reasonable enough:

Introducing Flightsim.to Premium

But you can do both: Enjoy fast, easy downloads and support Flightsim.to at the same time. Based on your feedback, we will offer an optional Premium Membership in a few days for those who want to actively support Flightsim.to. No worries, we are not making any changes for non-premium users - that goes against our philosophy. Premium users can simply skip the countdowns and are directly routed through a global content delivery network to realize even faster download speeds - up to 10 times faster, to be precise, as Premium traffic is completely cut from all other traffic happening on Flightsim.to.

At the same time, Premium Members are not only supporting Flightsim.to, but also one of their favourite creators - because we will be donating a share of the price directly to a creator of their choice. We will tell you more details when the time comes!

Look out for the new Mudspike Platinum level downvote Unlike+ button for our paying members, coming September 31st!

If it is reasonably priced then I don’t mind subscribing. I have visited Flightsim.to quite frequently this past 12 months.

It will interesting to watch, as they seem to be saying they will be a payware store as well. Some of the existing mods alter payware in a way that’s sort of ‘copyright grey’, so the real test will be when they have their store revenue in one hand and the fluffy free-as-in-beer community goodwill in the other. History shows it tends to change things, but maybe this time it will be different. I think giving people making the free mods a cut also complicates things somewhat, as license hawks tend to circle. Getting off the donation train is harder once it has some speed going. Capitalism Ho!

I kind of like the ‘Buy me a coffee’ or direct donation via paypal option for the mod authors. I sent the author of the recent Duxford scenery some funds because it was of such high quality that I would have bought it instantly if it had been released by OrbX or similar. Tying in a donation as part of the subscription seems a bit odd, and overly complicates things IMHO. I’ll gladly pay for no countdown, faster downloads and no ads though.

I don’t think that news has much to do with the recent outage, at least nothing seems to have changed on the site since it’s back up. Maybe it was something behind the scenes.

Anyway, I’d probably subscribe if it’s reasonable, as it’s the only place I use to download from, apart from the payware ones hosted elsewhere.

FWIW, I’d pay an annual fee to support mudspike if you guys needed it. I like it here

Heck, I give Subsim.com $5 a year and get a very gracious thank you email for it; I read it and am sort of like “Sure, happy to help, it’s just $5”, but they act like it was $100. A good site over there.

Overall I’m at that point in life where I’d rather pay a bit of money to enjoy a great thing, then ‘put up with’ a free thing.

That said, yeah, I agree the move to payware is possibly one step too far down a slippery slope. I’m all for mods feeling free to charge for their work, but spot on with licensing potentially rearing its ugly head.

Hey @everyone, we are excited to announce the availability of v0.8.0 of the G1000NXi in the Marketplace! Headline features of v0.8.0 include support for LNAV, LNAV+V, LNAV/VNAV, LP, and LP+V RNAV approach types; METAR retrieval and display; map panning; and plenty more.

As always, this is an Early Access Opt-In Beta, so there may be bugs or missing features! Please give us feedback and reports on Discord in our nxi-early-access channel.

Head to the sim Marketplace to grab the NXi, or go to Content Manager to download the update.

I may pick this up, the stock jetways are pretty awful. But I’m also tempted to wait around for a more complete GSX-type package, though.

I hope all that birds will be with full working cockpit. When I see MS releasing racing and ww2 military fighters i start to became stressed because remember the old nightmares and horror scenes when MS released some birds with external view only on MS Flight!!!

Don’t forget to let them know what they are doing wrong.
