That is pretty nice, specially watching so many steam gauges

There’s no Viggen!

Huh? Why is MSFS downloading Windows 11 for me.

I had that note too…

I did a little search for it and it seems that the Win 11 content that this message refers to is some sort of blue lighting for 11 landmarks in honor of the Win 11 rollout and also a livery for the Extra 300.

There seems to be a lot of douchebaggery about it on the Interwebz. Go figure.

Kind of a stupid name for an update. Why not just call it the ā€œYour hard drive will reformat in 10 seconds updateā€?

Great idea! Lol. Thanks for checking and posting it here.

Oh no…I put a lot of work into that PNW Sceneries thread here with links to their stuff. Oh well…I should have known those URLs might die at some point if they end up changing their site or business model.

I think it’s looking positive so far, they just need to have a ā€˜get download quick, help us out’ premium model. If they don’t make it a pleasant thing then someone else will get big for temporary freemium instead.

If anyone wants to beta the Reno racing and the new multiplayer stuff, the sign up is tomorrow.

I was surprised by that too - glad it doesn’t mean they actually updated my OS…

Those pit shot’s are beyond amazing. A couple of them looks just like home.

The version of that message in the beta was ā€˜Vaccination successfully applied.’ so they changed it to that to make it less controversial.

Here’s the livery and some lights on famous landmarks that the content includes.

Marketing people are weird, but I think it’s all harmless. They did this to the real life buildings around the world as well - https://www.globaltrends.us/2021/10/microsoft-lights-up-worlds-tallest.html

Btw, I love seeing the live traffic stacked up on 16L/C/R KSEA in the distance…

Some Reno Air Race info, stolen from the official forums and the Dev Q&A stream:

Reno Air Races

  • everything officially licensed
  • a lot of the aircraft were 3d scanned
  • collaborated with pilots and owners of the aircraft
  • in development for 2 years
  • collaborated with Michael Johnson (Lotus Simulations, L-39) and Scott Gentile (A2A Simulations, P-51)
  • collaborated with BlueMesh and Orbx on a few models
  • wake turbulence effects ground, will kick up dust and dirt
  • G Effects (redout and blackout)
  • Race announcers that you can hear via speakers around the airport
  • Each aircraft has unique performance specs, when you race other players or participate in the time-trial, all aircraft performance is the same
  • Useable in free flight, not restricted to racing
  • Aircraft are visible in multiplayer free flight even if you do not own the Reno DLC
  • no AI aircraft, only Time Trial for single player
  • private matchmaking and customized race features hopefully to follow a few months after release
  • upgrade path if you want to buy individual aircraft or certain aircraft bundles
  • exhaust effects, eg, smoke on startup

I’m not really into racing (it looks terrifying, especially in VR) but might give it a go. As the first paid DLC, I think I might wait for the Helos next year. Still, with give it a go I think.

I do hope they will model engine temperature and damage - I watched a Flight Chops video about Reno and the pilots were constantly on the radio with their ground team about the engine performance and pulled back on the MP if they had a bit of lead to look after the aircraft etc.

If you can just hoon around with no care, a huge component of racing these old aircraft made into monsters is lost, I think. I’m mildly excited about the idea of trying it out, probably when I make the leap into VR.

A little update about the ATSimulations An-2 for MSFS:

MSFS teamed up with ATSimulations and the An-2 is now being developed under the MS/Asobo hood. It it nearing its completion and the developer expects it is finished still this year (when MSFS releases it for public is yet another question as I understood they would plan to release it alongside a WU). Price 15 USD - same as the Ju-52. Skis and floats included, two different dashboards - same as the Ju-52

And one more info - after the feedback from the community, MS/Asobo plan to ship it with a manual. They will also issue one for the Ju-52.

Good news, everyone!

The A2A bit definitely caught my attention. I doubt we’ll see true A2A depth in these new ponies, but any added systems modeling would be a nice addition to the sim. Additionally I can’t imagine A2A agreed to work with Asobo without getting something back for it, so I am HOPING they are using this opportunity to figure out how to make their indepth simulation style work with MSFS.
