Wow, what a final round on Bethpage Black for me. Played decently with my Pro club set on distance. But none of that mattered on the greens. I must have putted 4 to 6 times on a couple of holes, adjusting for breaks that apparently weren’t really there! IIRC, I finished like +14 or +15 on round 2.
The best part of that round was the long game, where I did manage to avoid a few of the bunkers that trapped me on round 1. I do admit blowing a few shots on the back 9 that I could have done better on, particularly on stroke quality. I was getting fatigued after those putting extravaganzas, and was simply pushing to get the round done, by that point.
At some point in a round like that (and I had TWO of them on that course) you cross the event horizon on salvagability and just start firing off ridiculous shots in an attempt at a miracle. “Hmmm…I wonder if I can cart path this shot for 400 yards…” It is kind of liberating (though utterly embarrassing) to be 20 shots off the lead.
340 I believe it was was the best I could do off the cart path on that course, mine however wasn’t intentional. Fun fact, if you get it to stay on the path, sparks fly out from under your club head when you strike it
I’ve started setting up the next season, and it takes us into the first week of August so far. There will be many more events added. The current last event on the list (4 rounds) is the first Major, and a qualifier for the Mudspike Championship that will be the closing event of the season.
There will be 3 Majors I think (if I can muster the courage to keep tediously entering these lol), and you have to have placed in the top 5 at any of the majors to qualify for the Mudspike Championship main event. Everyone who doesn’t qualify for the main event will be able to participate in the alternate event - it’s the same thing just separate leaderboard and you can’t win the points, obviously.
The overall points winner following the Mudspike Championship will be the season champion (maybe we can get a forum title or icon or something @fearlessfrog?)
Anyway, I didn’t see anyone suggesting courses, so I’m just adding ones that look popular or are being used by the TGCTours (plus I’ll throw in member clubs as well). Feel free to suggest courses before the schedule is filled.
Awesome - I’m looking forward to our second season. I had such a blast playing this season. Thanks for the hard work putting the events together and keeping us rolling. I think I’m going to do much better this next season…I’m buying a golf cart:
Oh man…that first albatross was a beauty…coming down off that top slope. And I hope you escape from the police for murdering the clown that you stole that outfit off of in that third segment.
Well, I don’t overly toot my own horn, but I wanted to show off. I somehow managed to beat the great Rhino and adlabs in a couple of 9 hole rounds. Normally, I’m near the rear of our tournaments, so it’s nice to beat the varsity once in awhile.
Did we turn shot suggestions off for the new league year? While I don’t think anyone needs them, it’s less cumbersome to fine tune their suggestions to the proper one than thumb through starting with the driver each shot.
First round… and an ace on the 17th. Sadly I didn’t save the video, suffice to say it pitched long by about 15 ft, spun back towards the hole and dropped.
Same here. With the new settings, getting used to the putting cost me quite a few shots. I was on for a eagle on one of the Par 4’s and ended up 5 putting.
On the new settings, I think I prefer it. Previously the suggested club or shot (flop) would leave me in trouble round the green or way short.
Thanks again for setting these up @Rhinosaurus, I work away a lot so it’s nice to have something to look forward to midweek.
