Painted the shed today and planning has started on a fruit cage my wife desires to be built. That will keep any critters off my fruit bushes. Take note

My wife ordered a basketball hoop/goal for the kids to put in our driveway. I told her that her garden is going to be in far less danger from rabbits and deer than errant basketballs…

Tomato plants are starting to take off now with the cool weather and frequent rains. Peppers are looking good too. The plastic is to smother and heat the soil around the garden to kill pests and weeds…to be followed by mulch or pine needles soon…

Your tomatoes are much further on than mine and we just sewed the chilli’s and peppers yesterday. I guess your a lot further south in latitude than us. IIRC 55 degrees north same as southern Canada

Yes - we are North 35 degrees…quite a bit further south. I flew up to West Virginia a few days ago (Bluefield, WV) and the elevation there is about 3,000’ and they are at N 37 degrees…and they had trees that were just starting to bud out whereas ours are fully filled with leaves. It is amazing how just a couple hundred miles and some elevation significantly affect growth periods…

The western Carolinas is getting a cold snap this past day or two. Some of the high elevations got snow a couple days ago. It is supposed to get down to about 1.5C tonight in our area…we will probably cover our plants to be safe…

We have the same, a drop of about 12 degrees and a North wind coming from the Arctic. I bought parrafin for a small heater I have and hope it will keep things toasty for the next few nights

Cypress mulch going in today around our lower raised beds…

We’re down to -2 tonight, the only thing we have out in the open is onions and leeks. We put the four lambs out a couple of weeks back and just debating on whether to bring them in.

On the plus side the clear sky means I’ll be able to watch the SpaceX Skytrain satellites. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The lambs will be fine if they don’t get wet. A bale for them to shelter from any wind will help.
We have been very busy today I made a new brassica bed and using the carbon fibre poles from an old tent covered with net. Planted out loads of purple sprouting broccoli, cabbage and cauli. I will post pictures tomorrow. We also sowed butternut squash, more asparagus more spring onions and planted out one of the bigger pumpkin

So as promised some snaps

The new brassica bed mulched with composted cow manure.

This is the South side of the tunnel and I have created a path and started removing some of the rhubarb plants to give me another planting bed. There are broad beans sown along the path side and will fill the rest with salads and beans

The small plastic greenhouse with the remaining brassica plants. I will be refilling this with all our flowering plants we have sown for the front garden and the scented garden my wife insists on having.

The queue of seedlings waiting for warmer weather to plant out.

Peas and pak choi

Strawberry and radish, spring onions and lettuce

Leeks, asparagus and basil.

@BeachAV8R is the mulch weed suppression and is it made from pine needles or bark?

I was gifted this beauty today! …

We can now legally grow four plants per household in Canada! … Unfortunately I have zero gardening experience, and even less in this whole “groovy scene” man. I’ve been told that I need to put this in a big pot with potting soil. I’m going to have to get my gardening on this weekend. Any tips would be appreciated. I want to garden the heck out of this thing.

Some tomato feed will keep them happy and make sure they don’t dry out.
