Mudspike Golf Club - 2025

OK. Take a break from shooting up the world in Reforger. Or dropping bombs in DCS. Or shooting an ILS in MSFS. The Mudspike Golf Club is reopening. This time we will be using PGA Tour 2K23. I kicked around using an older version…or some other golf game…but 2K23 is pretty well fleshed out now. I just picked it up a few days ago in the Steam Winter Sale for 85% off ($8.99 - I don’t know what that is in those funny European metric dollars…)

I’ll try to put up some events - the first one…season opener is up for about 4 days. We won’t exactly track the PGA Tour schedule…but for the season opener it is hard to beat the Kapalua Plantation Course…so that’s what we will kick off with. I don’t actually know how to JOIN the club…so maybe you have to search the societies and request to join from me (?). I’ll approve them as I see them. For $9 I think we can have some fun.

I’ve only just started playing 2K23 - it looks good and plays nice. I feel the swing mechanics are a smidge more difficult than 2K21 or whatever I was playing before. I see more miss-hit shots because my swing timing isn’t spot on…but I feel that is a good thing. Room to improve.

I set conditions to be kind of breezy (as Kapalua is) and out of the northeast and north (as often the trades are there). I put medium greens and fairways…because I think the user created course is a bit slippery (this is not an official 2K23 course.

And I apologize in advance for my very Chad looking player character. The customization variables couldn’t quite match how stunningly gorgeous I am in real life…

I’m open to suggestions on difficulty settings…golf aids…all of that stuff. I selected what I thought was reasonable…but will take suggestions. Also…I plan to just make the events two rounds unless there is a desire to make them four rounds (?). Feel free to help me make this enjoyable…

Can I just fly the photo helicopter? Jeanette, my first gf, turned me off to golf in a most permanent manner.

 OK…yes…it is your duty to get into MSFS2024 and take a quick video of the course of the week…

Jeanette really busted your balls both figuratively and literally…

I’ve got this on the PS5, so assuming it’s cross play, I’ll sign up. It’s been a while… :slightly_smiling_face:

Im in. 2 rounds per week seems like a good amount.

For $9, I’m in.

IRL when it comes to golf, I’m a hack.

But I just completed the training and the front nine at the Elevens Club, and…

I’m keen, depending on what time you guys T-off.

Or is this like the Mudspike Rally’s and I can do it at my leisure (as long as it is done within the time frame)? In which case count me in.

I am good enough for corporate purposes (IE the boss isn’t thinking I’m letting him win, or just flat out incompetent). If we’re doing country club stuff, trap or skeet would be my much preferred option.

A golf course is the willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range.

How long does it take to play a round? I usually have about an hour after work in the AM that I could get some golf in.

I’m pretty ambivalent when it comes to golf. When I was a CPL at my one and only HQ posting, the ‘boss’ a MAJ was mad keen and for every Wednesday ‘sports afternoon’ the entire office would play. I think my quip at the time was ‘why ruin a good walk’.

I can be guaranteed to slice or hook a drive, like Happy Gilmour my putting sucks, but I am surprisingly good at chip shots, especially out of a bunker… must be all the practice :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I played that front nine in less than 30 minutes, so a full round in under an hour is doable.

Yep, it’s like this. Beach sets up the tournament and we have a number of days to play our round. I think you can save mid round as well and then continue, but don’t quote me on that.

Sweet. Should be fun… but I’m not any better at golf than I am driving a rally car :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Installing, I’ll check it out this afternoon before work.

I’ve approved the following…if you apply for the society it may take me a bit to approve it because it is an active process where I have to login and look at the management page. I will also populate the tournament calendar over the next week or so…

I don’t know if you did anything else at your end or there was just some kind of delay, but this time I got a membership approved notification and a link to accept.

I’m in :+1:

After consenting to two license agreements and acknowleding another one no longer is in force (sadly I was drinking heavily before and during this process), and going through the basic tutorial, I found the screen where I could send a request to join the society! Prepare to witness the worst slices and bunker excursions in the history of this game

Still haven’t found the screen where I can change graphics settings …
