Mudspike Golf Club - 2025

A little bit rusty, so I have to be happy with this score. Got my work cut out for me on day 2 though, looks like you had a good one @jenrick ?

Started out Par / Double / Double / Par…didn’t look too auspicious. Settled in a bit…but dang I ran some chips down some slopes resulting in even further chips. Those greens and slopes in Round 1 were devilishly fast. Came in at +1… Now for the wet and sloggy day. Should be interesting…

Probably play Round 2 tomorrow evening…

I’m glad it wasn’t just me. I did that at least once. Plus a putt that then resulted in a chip.

Not a fan of those greens at all and whoever decided on that pin placement is a sadist.

Well, I finished the 2nd Round at Quail Hollow and what can I say? The less said the better, but that was probably my worst 2K23 round yet, finishing with a 13 over!

I am not going to embarrass myself any further by posting the scorecard.

So you’re saying I have a chance!

Haven’t had a chance to get my second round in. We’re redoing the fence on one side, and my down time in tht mornings have been tied up there. Have everything prepped and staged though, so should have time tomorrow.

Well the triple bogey wasn’t great in the first nine, but I was doing alright. The double on 11 going bunker, to bunker, to bunker wasn’t great either, but was recoverable. The pentuple bogey on the 17th, going into the water 3 times off the tee knocked me right out of it. Overall a challenging course, that I really thing I should have scored better at. Had the usually missing putts by 2mm, but even that didn’t account for two many strokes. Not sure what it was on this one.

I found the greens to be pretty brutal.

One thing I’ve always struggled with in golf games…particularly in the 2K games is the notion that less is more. I’m constantly trying to get up into that perfect swing strength range for what is a marginal payoff. I mean…what…you might get 10 or 15 or 20 extra yards on your drive…but the slightest mistiming and you are 10 years into the rough. My best rounds are when I aim short of the top of the ā€œnormalā€ strength meter, accept the lesser distance, but play better with better accuracy. I can rarely hold on to that zen swing pace though…

Me either. It wasn’t as if my ā€˜game’ was that off compared to round one… I even had a couple of birdies and some miraculous putts for par. But yeah my 13 over included three shots getting out of the same green side bunker (for a +30ft putt) and driving it into the water from the fairway three times on another hole!

I think I will have to try Chris’ idea of ā€˜less is more’ next time. Particularly when I have a headwind or a long Par 4 and the temptation to go large or go home with the power is too hard to ignore.

Colonial (with a K… ) is up for a week… Nice course. LIDAR user made. Not a lot of fanfare to it…a legit fun track…

My +4 for the first round means I don’t think I am going to be troubling anyone else at the Mudspike Kolonial.

A deceptively tricky course with the elevated greens, breaks in the fairway and the bunkers.

The early double bogey, and another on the 13th kept my fighting to stay at least even. The bogey on the 18th, kept me from getting under. Honestly did all right, I didn’t have any holes that I just didn’t know WTF happened like I’ve had on some other courses. I think my second round if I play a hair more conservatively on certain holes should be smoother. We shall see.

A much better round for ā€˜Day 2’ saw me claw back three shots… At least I will still be on the podium

Looks like all the practice I have been getting with chip shots out of green side bunkers is finally paying off :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Well considering I was in the middle of this mess on the 3rd hole:

I’m actually quite content with where I’m at currently with the front 9 done.

Playing more conserveatively is working out well for me, so far at least.

Almost kept it together

The double bogey was actually a 3 putt, probably 4 holes were 2 putts missed by inches. Considering I ended up in the sand 4 times, actually a pretty reasonable final score. No horrible errors, the only shot that was obviously too aggressive ended in a fairway bunker, and I was able to get on the green quite nicely on the next shot. Overall good round, nice course, definitely wouldn’t mind playing that one again.

Nice rounds. I was fairly consistent on both rounds…nothing awful…nothing spectacular. But I will say I’m pretty much sure I visited each sandtrap on that entire course at least once…

Are we there yet at this price point? I’d love to restart the weekly tournaments…

Unfortunately with all the extra Xmas ā€˜expenses’ it will have to wait until the next pension ā€˜cheque’… which ironically is due Christmas Day.

What are the improvements on 25 that make it worth switching?

I couldn’t tell you…someone further up the thread mentioned that the graphics are (of course) improved…but no idea about the contemt or game mechanics…
