Mudspike Golf Club - 2025

And back 9 done.

Considering hole #12 had me shooting from inside a bush through the palms, over the grand stand, I’ll take a par there. Had 2 more just missed putts on this 9, but with the wind and how my approach shots were going I’ll taken staying even.

Well done. Hard to be upset with an even round?

Based on my overall performance I am now approaching this course with some trepidation. I would like to get the first round done today, but at the moment tomorrow is looking more likely.

Goodness that was a windy and tight round that just didn’t make sense. I saw I was only one stroke back from the leaders after a few holes and thought to myself “surely I can make this up…”

Uh…no… Hole after hole I would find myself off in the rough…or duffing a chip shot. It was terrible. Oh…the humanity…

I’ll have to try Round 2 tomorrow…

Urgh… I hate golf.

That’s ugly

Two water excursions resulted in me chasing birdies.

Just awful

The golfing gods deserted me on this match.

The wind was howling in Round 1: 12 to 14 mph. Somehow walked away with a -1.
Round 2 brought less wind at about 7 mph, but most of it seemed crosswind. My plan to go aggressive on the first 9 backfired as I went up +3 or +4 at one point. Eased up and got back to +1 with an overall Par for the event which I will happily take considering the conditions and competition. :man_golfing: :golf:

A brief photographic retrospective of round 2:

Well we’re just off to a stunning first hole of round 2.

I paid to use the whole course, I’m using the whole course.

I pay my caddie to carry all these clubs, might as well see how many I can use on the same hole.

Usurpingly, I didn’t roll this in for par.

How my putting usually goes:

So with all those troubles, somehow still managed a pretty reasonable round.

On the 7th I think it was, I almost had a hole in 1, which turned into a bogey. Rolled just along the rim of the cup back off the green and then ended up 3 putting it.

Next event will held at the (fictional) Yellowgrass Prairie Club at our soon to be 51st state () (sorry…tough to find a course in Greenland…apparently the 52nd state  )

Fun looking course…very open and rolling. I was only able to make it for January 12-15…I was actually hoping to do the PGA West event those days, but we’ll run the PGA West tournament maybe the 16-18. I can shorten up the times for more frequent events…but don’t want to give too short of windows for people to complete their rounds. Good luck! Gonna be breezy on Day 2…!

Yes…that was an odd course. Tight…but I felt there were tons of opportunities to make better scores than what I did…but for some reason or another I would just miss a putt…or catch a bad contour of the fairway and get pushed off into the rough. I think some of the holes were out of reach for me too - like the opening Par 4 I could not reach in two no matter how well I struck my driver/3-wood combination. I haven’t been applying my “points” or whatever I’ve been winning through my career progression to my bag/golfer… Maybe I need to pay more attention to that stuff and try to find some extra distance or accuracy. I’m not too good at all the micro-management stuff of this game…

Fantastic match though and it was close throughout…!

I think I need to drop a club out of my bag and add a machete… :axe:

I paid to use the whole course, I’m using the whole course.

That’s very like my RL golf. However I usually ask for a discount as I don’t use all the fairways.

Santraps, or what I like to call my 3rd shot lie, again I’m helping the ground staff as I’m fluffing up the sand for them.

A terrible start to the 1st Round with two Bogies and a triple Bogey. The next 10 holes were a comedy of errors as I either could not make the green in regulation but managed to save par with some miraculous chip shots and/or putting, or I missed some easy Birdie putts from 10ft or less

I didn’t think I was going to be able to claw anything back until some luck went my way on the 16th and 18th.

Round 2 was a carbon copy of the first: i.e. call me ‘Mr Inconsistent

I will let the scorecard speak for itself.

Overall, a challenging course to say the least and I will take the 3 over.

Hat’s off to @jenrick You nailed it man.

Sorry we don’t have an event to play today (the 11th)…it would be nice if the game allowed for a slight overlap of events…but you have to end on a day and start the next. So the Waialae event ends tonight at midnight (GMT?) and the next event starts on January 12. It would have been nice to have something to play over the whole weekend. I’ll try to do better scheduling that so that the event is available for weekends. Heck…we can even expand weekend tournaments to be 4 rounds and mid-week rounds to be 2 rounds if ya’ll want. Or if the current setup is working…that’ll work. Take today and take a practice round at Yellowgrass Prairie!

From the designer (mattyfromcanada):

“The course takes inspiration from the land I hunt on. When I’m out there I’m always designing holes in my head, and it was fun to create a plot and bring them to life. The course works its way through the prairie and beside, over, and around the large ravines that cut through the property. The ground game is alive and well and there are a lot of fun shots to hit throughout your round.”

So it looks like event results for Waialae are as follows:

Thanks to everyone for participating…! Congrats to @jenrick on the win. See you all in Canada tomorrow!

Thank you!

I like the current scheduling. 2 rounds work well for me so that I don’t get bored seeing the same course too many time, or if it’s one I don’t like I’m not stuck playing it 4 times.

Thanks Chris. Your tomorrow, or my tomorrow… Joking

And ditto for what @jenrick said. Two rounds per tournament is plenty for me. I am open to the occasional 4 round match - but I would probably need a week to complete it?

Frequency (i.e. mid-week plus weekend rounds) I am agnostic about. If I can’t make a round, I can’t make a round. I don’t want to spoil anyone else’s fun by insisting on only one round per week, for example.

I don’t know. We use English tomorrows here…ya’ll probably use them funny Metric tomorrows in that other hemisphere (if you believe all that Earth is a sphere nonsense…)…

I have been to England and quite familiar with their system. So, sometime between next Tuesday and ‘when I get around to it’ then? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
