So, as the promo suggests, I’m planning on using the Dreamfoil EMB110 (in X-Plane 10) since it is a Brazilian manufactured aircraft. My route isn’t set in stone, but I do plan to hopscotch across the Caribbean and parts of northern South America on my trip down to Rio…

A direct routing would be just over 4,000nm - so I’ll have quite the haul in my little twin-turboprop. I’m looking forward to starting the trip in a few days perhaps…
And yes…I’ve packed appropriately…

Check the top post - I’ve added a pin-map for participants to post their locations during the flight if they want. You can add a pin, move it, add text and images as you make your way to Rio…
This isn’t working at the moment. I think I set up the map admin wrong…
I think I will give this a try. I did get x-plane on the last steam sale and this gal
It might take me a little while
I’ll take that challenge, and have the perfect wheels to get there, albeit with a subpar paint shop. At 4 on and 2 off, the line really sucks. But the layover rocks, so this is our most senior trip at Air Chipwich.
Never A Drink Charge
Now there is a motto I can get behind…!
Love it the paint scheme @chipwich - Where do you start from - PDK? We had one of our planes there today:
But I got the jet trip and ended up bouncing around Ohio and Pennsylvania:
Which King Air is that Carenado?
Thanks Chris. Yes, Carenado B200 v3. I don’t have a lot of time in it, so this trip will be great. Initially, I was planning Hartsfield, but I should really depart PDK since it is less than 5 miles from my house. There is a mediocre one for DL at x-plane.org.
I flew into SBGL a few years ago in a Global. It would be kind of boring to simulate though as I would take off from Austin (KAUS), turn on the autopilot and land at Rio about 9 hours and 45 minutes later. Maybe a different bird would be more fun. If I have the time I will give this a shot.
Lol. Yes, that would be a challenge Chris .
What is a good way for e to make a flight plan in x-plane. I was never very good at that
Pray for tailwinds…!! LOL…
X-Plane does not have a very good flight-planner - particularly with regards to loading an FMS with one if that is required. More advanced aircraft have an FMS where you can enter FMS (or FMC) waypoints manually whenever you want. Even the X-Plane Garmin 430 will allow you to build a flightplan on the fly.
This can be a good planner - but it has it’s limitations: http://onlineflightplanner.org/
Once you let it “build” you a flight plan, you can export the .FMS file and then load it from the X-Plane menu system to sort of send it to your FMS. To be honest, I can’t remember what the Carenado B200 is equipped with…(I think it is an X-Plane type Garmin GNS…
You can also try SimRoutes as well: http://www.simroutes.com/fb2/details.aspx
But it seems to be pretty wonky at the moment…lots of connection errors…
So I’ve got my first leg planned…not going to fly it tonight though (yawn)…
My “home” airport closet to me is KAKH (Gastonia, NC). Some custom KAKH X-Plane scenery by ebigg2000 looks like a pretty fair representation. I was happy to see it because KAKH was where I got my first big corporate flying break operating Citations and King Airs from that tiny airport.
My first leg is going to take me to my old flight instructor and freight flying stomping grounds of KCRE (North Myrtle Beach)…
My EMB110 parked in front of a fair representation of what Gastonia looked like when I worked there. That little office building was the home of TPT Aviation, later called Cotton Air - a textiles group that had a fractional ownership in a CJ, Citation II, Citation V, and King Air B200 and B300…
I got my name stenciled on the cockpit…and my 6-year old son is going to be my co-pilot…
The EMB110 is not going to be the quickest ride to Brazil…I shaded the typical TAS columns that we’ll be operating in at hotter than standard temps. It is looking like about a 210-220 TAS aircraft…
I’ve got the GPU hooked up while I familiarize myself with the EMB110…
I love the panel…very King Air-like…with old school radios and systems…
Half tanks of fuel should get us there… I love the DreamFoil menu systems…
Fun seeing the hangars that we used to keep the aircraft in. The two next to the brick building held Citations and a few more hangers down around the bend held the King Airs and one other Citation. Ah…memories…
Off to North Myrtle Beach tomorrow…
BeachAV8R
I was hoping I could do this in a DC-3.
Hawaii - Rio, via whatever is necessary…
I simply lack the physical time,
OHWOW!
Yeah, that would kind of work…
Uhm, now that I think of it- Could we kind of manage to recreate Black Buck One? It touched down in Rio, or was it?
Well, after its dirty deeds…
@BeachAV8R, the MudSpike EMB110 is coming along nicely. You and Kai have a good trip over to Myrtle today.
King Air B200 question pls. For 500 NM trip, what’s a good ball park criuse altitude if the customer is buying the gas? Looks like around FL 200 - 220 gives best TAS. I’m going to try to break my trip into ~500 mile chunks where possible. Q2, given two GNS430s on the panel, what is the best way to use them? Program same route but use different screen views?
I’ve been trying different XP flight planning methods. It looks like if you drop the .FMS files in the Output folder, you can open them in the 430 as saved flight plans. Wish that there was more documentation. There is another display on the panel that I have no idea as to its function.
