Seems like the older I get the years are zipping by faster and faster.

Iā€™ve heard this phenomenon explained as follows:

We somehow compare a period of time to the total length of time we have experienced, to determine how long or short it feels.

So when youā€™re 4 years old, 1 year is 25% of your lifetime. An unfathomably long time. 1% of your lifetime is 2 weeks.

When youā€™re 80 years old, 1 year is just over 1% of your lifetime. It will feel just as long as 2 weeks felt when you were 4 years old. 25% of your lifetime then, is 20 years. That should then feel the same as 1 year felt when you were a toddler.

I havenā€™t reached that point yet, but so far, the rule seems to be holding up.

Dunno if itā€™s that, but DANG that explanation is bang on the moneyā€¦

Iā€™m in an unusual situation this year. Iā€™m a week into a new houseā€¦not mineā€¦renting. That feels funny. But one of the first things I did was buy Christmas lights to put up after Thanksgiving. Even though Iā€™m the only one over here.

Mate, I know you are doing it tough and doubly so considering this time of year is without a doubt the hardest for folk going it alone.

Are you OK? and if not make sure you reach outā€¦ to anyone. Also know, we got ya back.

Just like to second this ā€¦ at work we see a lot of people who are in need of help, this time of yearā€¦ anyone feeling overwhelmed or down please ask for help, there is no shame in talking to people

I really appreciate everything that everyone here has done. Just having a bit of an outlet right now is a good thing to relieve the whirlwind of emotions. I took my boys out to look at bedroom furniture yesterdayā€¦figuring I should let them pick out stuff for their rooms at my house so they feel invested in the decisions. It was fun watching them try beds out and give thumbs up and down to certain bedroom suites.

As with all ā€œlife eventsā€ā€¦this one has certainly given me perspective. I donā€™t know that I was fully empathetic to my friends and family that have gone through divorces. I wish I could go back and call them more frequently and offer to be a sounding board moreā€¦ Iā€™m on the upswing nowā€¦things are getting better. Thanks so much. I hope everyone has a great holidayā€¦

This is lovely to hear. So glad you are giving them the choices to help them make a home with you when you have them. They will appreciate that more than you know.

From experience, when my mum and dad split up i was 12. I was upped, ripped out my home in the middle of the night and living in an awful estate with an uncle of my mums. Had none of my stuff, none of my comforts and no choice in the matter. Even the dog (who is a long story on his own) was taken away and not allowed to stay with my dad even.

I got him back in the end though. Just took a while.

To have some input or say in my own destiny despite it being a lot of my own control would of made the situation easier for me. You are doing the right thing there chris. Seriously.

I need a control tower. I think my fuse box would implode if I wire another thing into that circuit thoughā€¦

So I just noticed this, and being me, I need to know whyā€¦

The little santa claus hats on our avatars have their tassels pointing either left or right.
Why? Why not just one way? No discernable pattern. Why?

It looks like they alternate between left and right each time you post. If I am correct then the hat for my avatar should be pointing left for this post.
