I can’t be sure if I ever played one before Dirt 2. I remember NASCAR and F1 games pretty well, but not rally before that.
I think the first rally game I played was Mobil 1 British Rally Championship. Full BRC season, with long stages. It was quite epic at the time. There was even multiplayer when cars lined up with each other on the same stage, at the same time. It was unrealistic, but funny. I remember rallying with two friends and we were all in a tight group. There was a hairpin turn and one guy was late braking and went over the cliff. I still laugh about it to this day.
Gah, I wish I could join y’all there.
But right now I even lack the energy for the Christmas Flight (which I never missed before IIRC).
Watching this with interest, though! Perhaps in December or January…
For planning purposes in December, I was thinking of running another 3 Rallies from Dec 3 (Sunday) to Dec 23 (Saturday).
Rally 1 Dec 3 to 9 Portugal (gravel)
Rally 2 Dec 10 to 16 Italy-Sardegna (gravel)
Rally 3 Dec 17 to 23 Kenya or Estonia (gravel)
Then take the next 2 weeks off for holidays and resume around Jan 6/7/8-ish.
What’s everyone’s December schedule like?
Looks good for me.
Looks good Chaz. I hope that you are sticking with the WRC2 cars. I typically drive the regular WRC, but really liking these so far.
By the way, simhub now has support for Wrc23 …
Even the bass shakers work
Hey @Rusty , I saw you join the WRC club. Were you planning to race? The Portugal event ends tomorrow morning at 8:18am eastern/1318 UTC.
I hope you guys without sufficient funds/permissions realise that if you have DiRT 2 you get a discount for this one. I didn’t know until yesterday, as I was also hanging back due to the price. Now I have it installed and am signed up. Just hope I have enough control with my X360 pad.
I’m unable to link Steam for WRC so I can’t get my times uploaded. Had zero issues with linking Dirt Rally 2, so no idea - there are a number of error codes in the address bar right after I enter my account confirmation code and before we even get to the Steam bit.
So looks like I won’t be able to compete for now - I’ll still keep trying and I sent an error report to EA - not holding my breath for action on that.
*Now tried with two different browsers and same result - there are two or three “access denied” errors when Racenet goes to the Steam bit.
never mind - had enough of EA. Getting a refund.
FWIW, the Mudspike WRC club is not connected to Steam. It’s an EA Racenet club. I launch the game via Steam, but don’t have any other reliance on it since I use an Oculus and drive through the native virtual desktop. There are console players that don’t connect via Steam either.
I have the game on Steam and seems I have to have Steam linked to EA Racenet to be able to participate. Whenever I tried to even connect to racenet in any way from within the game I got the errors.
Found out why I had issues - it turns out there is already a link between my Steam account and EA - but I know nothing about it and the email address they quoted for the linked account is not mine and I’ve never seen it before.
I only bought WRC for 'Spike and so if I can’t do it I have refunded while I still can. I can always rebuy it at a later date if things get sorted with this mysterious email and EA account.
*meantime I’m continuing with DiRT Rally 2 - thought the gamepad control is quite poor for me in that
This is the error I got from EA - just doesn’t make sense to me. Looks like it’s an account that has been deactivated (due to the @disabled.ea.com bit) otherwise I’ve no idea what that is from.
I know it said this account was last used on Nov 8th - but I didn’t notice if it mentioned a year. I know I wasn’t on EA at all last month.
I had some old credentials for an EA account in a password list for sites I’d not used in many years and I did try them when WRC required me to register there - but it was refused, so I made the new one. Maybe that is the account they are talking about. Thing is, when I tried that old password in the game it said it was expired.
Wouldn’t be so frustrating if I could just get to actually ‘speak’ to EA instead of them constantly trying to pigeon-hole my problem and shoving useless ‘solutions’ in front of me. Even a link I found from an EA advisor to message them just took me right back to the “Help” section start page.
*just found out - Star Wars Squadrons was an EA title - must have been from that. Not played it since just after its release and have zero info on any account I may have been asked to sign into for it! So still need to contact a live person at EA to sort it.
I bought it on 6th November 2020 and it was a big download, so stands to reason I may well have played it on 8th November!
Dick effin Tracy!
Got a response from EA in that they have marked my query as “Resolved” when they have done nothing and nothing has been fixed!
…and so it goes on.Trying to get help from EA is like wading through treacle - only it doesn’t taste so good!
On the plus side, by other means I’ve found the email address that was used for the previous account I had (that I have no record of) and it will indeed have been for SWS in 2020. Unfortunately the email server has since shut down so can’t reset the password and still can’t get to actually speak/chat/email anyone at EA - they are still shoving me to their “Help” system - which tells me I need to chat/speak/email them, but doesn’t tell me how!
I want to sort this cos it’s a great game and I don’t find many of those these days.
**I bought it again anyway - it’s too much fun and now I know the issue I hope that at some stage it can be sorted. meantime I’ll have some fun offline
Last post - I’m coming across a huge multitude of people that have this exact same issue - some having had it for years!
Now I know this, how poor EA support is - so bad that even this issue that has been around for so long and still no simple way to just contact them and ask them to do something very simple without taking the legal route (not actually involving lawyers) - I will never buy another of their titles. It’s scandalous that a company this big is so dire at fixing the common issues of their own making - probably because it’s the customer’s problem and they already have the money. Like most of the big companies/corporations - most profits, worst customer service.
Sorry for the posts - really pissed off.

As briefly discussed in another thread, let’s get back to some EA WRC. If you are tagged, it’s because you have at least 1 entry in the Mudspike WRC league. @chipwich i know you can’t race until VR is officially supported but of course you are welcome any time you wish.
I’ll start a 2 rally championship this weekend on 13 January. I figured we should visit the recently added Central Europe Rally location at Czech Republic and Rally Italy or Poland.
2 rallies
3 stages per rally
7 day limit for each rally
Check to ensure your WRC is up-to-date with the latest patch.
Ok, I’ll look for it.
