NATO Ministry of Information video thread

Hehehe yeah. I’m on the phone and I have limited capacity.

Not 100% sure of this story … But it wasn’t published on April the 1st, so could be true

I wonder if he does the typeratings in DCS: Hornet?

It’s reported in several places.
I guess no means no, even when offered back seat rides in fighters.
Interesting to note that the ejection caused the auto ejection of the pilot to malfunction…

that would be a bit hairy for the pilot, sitting on a live ejection seat that has malfunctioned and could fire at any second. really flying by the seat of your pants

I guess that was the smoothest touch down of his career!

Again?
A very similar thing happened last year.

The dinghy failed to inflate due to a technical flaw of the seat.

MOG!!?? He could have drown!!!

Actually, years ago a very similar thing happened to a USN CAPT getting a familiarization ride in (IIRC) a F-14 at NAS Fallon. I am pretty sure we have already discussed it in another track. Same kind of thing. Neg Gs, passenger automatically reaches for something to pull him back into the seat, grabs the ejection handle and …well…essentially gets his wish–he’'s back in the seat but the seat is no longer in the aircraft.

Surprised that pulling the back seat handle also fires the front seat. In the F-14 you could set the seats for Command Eject (pull leather and both go) or single ejection (not sure its proper term) where if you only pulled the RIO handle, only the RIO would go. Obviously if you pulled the pilot handle, both would go same as Command Eject.

Then there’s the airman who, during his incentive ride in a Viper (at Tyndall, or Mac Dill I think, it was many years ago), found himself landing the thing when his ‘driver’ had a faulty stick up front. Can’t find a link; it happened like 20+ years ago. I recall it cuzz it happened around the time I got my last ride in one; and yeah, the fantasy did pass through my head then

Yeah this is the incident with the Tomcat:

And this is another one from the Rafale, last year.

Thanks @Aginor! The F-14 article is a great read.

I had to chuckle when I saw the accompanying photo of the mishap jet…

On the tail facing towards us we see what appears to be the squadron’s logo.

Below that we see an “E” and an “S”

The E is the “Battle E” for excellence. One squadron of each type of aircraft, on each coast, wins the Battle E each year - passes all their inspections and evaluations with high marks, doesn’t have any serious mishaps… The S is essentially the same thing for Safety…. You get to show it on your jets for a year. If you win again the next year, you put a hash mark below it.

…yeah…two awards that squadron probably didn’t get hash marks for that year… :grimacing:

Have always liked the look of this aircraft. Going to be interesting to see how this develops in DCS World. I recognize several European Countries roundels on the aircraft but whose country has the roundel with the green dot surrounded by a red circle?

Italy?

Yep, you are correct. Something learned new today by me. Thanks.

In other news, I am patiently waiting to do this in DCS

Does anybody know the generic (unclassified) scenario that Red Flag is using these days? I went to Red Flag in 1987…the scenario had a Cold War theme to it

Probably China or Iran I reckon.

“How can we leverage this whole thing in a way to convince the taxpayers to spend more money on F-35s?” is probably the scenario!
