NATO Ministry of Information video thread

I have flown my friends L-4 and I loved it! Not just the flying, but feeling the history of the airframe…
It is basically an ultralight, when compared to modern standards and is best treated as such.
By that I mean you fly it by your senses or seat of your pants. Of course, me being used to eyes in IFR flying from work, struggled a bit at first. I distinctively remember pulling up after a slow pass over the field and glancing down at the ASI. It read 0…! I unloaded and leveled off, and my friend asked me what was the matter. I told him and he answered that the ASI was only valid in cruise…
You use your instruments to navigate and the aircraft will tell you everything else that you need to know.

From 1985 - this was very obviously done for promotional purposes as the guys are carrying SA80’s (that’s the original, failed type) and I didn’t even see one in a working unit until 1988 - and then only on an escape & evasion when the SAS were using them. The guy in the thumbnail has a Sterling SMG - much maligned, but I luvved 'em!

Interesting vid, though

LOL, haven’t seen that one before… I’m guessing you and other ‘squaddies’ were also subjected to the H.I.S.S. series as well?

I should have joined the RAAF. At least they got to see Dr FOD and the Wayward Body!

I split out the rifle discussion into it’s own thread.

“Nope, it’s a kids climbing frame in the garden, nothing to see here” said @chipwich, yesterday.

Ha, glad that the pilot is OK. Those are fairly large lakes and being the Lowcountry, there is plenty of swampy forest in this part of the state. I wish them luck recovering the aircraft and determining the cause. checks garage curtains

Someday America will purchase modern jets equipped with location features found on any Cirrus. As it is we must come to grips with our status as a small, poor country with aging equipment. We can still take great pride in having a mobilized citizenry that can help find stuff when it is lost.

To be fair, F-35 is a ‘stealth fighter’, no wonder they are having trouble finding it :stuck_out_tongue:

I disagree with your logic. You see, the pilot was a “stealth fighter pilot”, yet they found him! (Rimshot!)

Ahh yes, but perhaps the pilot wanted to be found…
