NATO Ministry of Information video thread

Brake shutes are a Norwegian thing. They are also on their F-16.

With all the bumps in the landscape they don’t have that many long runways.

Finland and Canada have also selected chutes for their F-35, but so far only RNoAF is using them.

Several F-16 users have drag chutes on the newer and heavier Vipers but I believe it was only Norway and the Netherlands that used them on the A, in the beginning.

Did y’all hear?

Someone took the term “naval aviation” a bit too literally in Oahu…

It’s always a little embarrassing when you forget to close the spoilers after landing.

They do that when they are about to give birth…

I read a hilarious comment on facebook.

If you want to hunt the submarine, you must first become the submarine…

I even read that with Bill Murray’s voice:

Not NATO related, but didn’t know where else to put it.

1970s vintage F-4Es, updated with modern avionics (HUD et cetera), IFF and targeting pods… as awesome as Eurofighter is, I think the Phantom steals the show here!

They’re all lovely in their own way, even the A400*. But one really appreciates the aesthetic of the F4 and F16, both. Maybe I’m just being 'merkan but those two really stand out as lovely. Plus a special nod to the Mirage.

*The EH-145 is hideous. I flew the 145 for six months and liked it well enough, maybe even found it pretty. But with all the sensors and McGivering, this version hardly looks airworthy.

Agreed, but you forgot to mention the Rafale! Technically not a Mirage, though not far removed.

And did you watch it to the end?
The Greeks are still flying that old weird-looking US Navy basic jet trainer. Love how short and dirty it looks.

I didn’t watch it until the end but now I will! And I’ll agree right back atchya, the Rafael is right up there with the F16.

Yup, same vibe

Yes indeed! And the Al Fursan display team has a super cool livery on their Macchis… there’s too much to mention!

Plenty of Mirages as well :sunglasses:

I have been scrolling the news while I wait to hear that the shipping container that is supposed to be delivered today is on the way…

Anyway, not strictly NATO but it does involve the US and I don’t know how many are aware of this but Australia getting three Virginia Class SSN’s is a pretty big deal:

Do they come complete with US Navy crews. :face_with_peeking_eye:

IIRC we have RAN Submariners training in the US already and the plan is to get them up to speed by deploying on USN Virginia’s until we take delivery.

But I am sure there will be US personnel on board even when they are in RAN service

Was this the deal we hosed France over?

Pretty much,

But Barracuda was a silly choice anyway. Taking a nuke design and adapting it as a conventional boat…

All the submariners I have spoken to said that the Soryu was the much better option if the RAN was going to replace Collins with another Diesel/Electric Boat.
