New project from Il-2 BOx studio

Maybe, but it could be a paid addon too. Makes sense, really. Those who want to fly for North Korea have little interest in carriers, for instance…

Random thought: I feel like Korea is the test run that will lead to Vietnam eventually becoming part of the IL2 franchise.

I will not cry if that’s where it all ends up…

Maybe now is the time to drop the IL2 moniker. It only has real meaning for those of us who were into this hobby in the early 2000’s. As the game advances past WW2 it will leave more of the market confused than it will capture through pride or nostalgia. Can you imagine a game called P-51:WW3? I mean, yeah, I’d probably play it just to reward the rediculousness of the concept. This is where we now are with the franchise.

I’m picturing something along the lines of Metal Wolf Chaos.

It is getting silly, but I think ‘Il-2’ is more of a brand/logo now than an aircraft. Been 23 years of using it, so probably risky to think about changing/stopping at this point.

There weren’t any il-2’s in Cliffs of Dover or Tobruk, either! Nor in Battle of Normandy or Bodenplatte or Flying Circus or obviously with tanks. In fact, if you go back to Pacific Fighters there were none there all the way back then!

I would also like another sim with jets and missiles to enter the market.
That said, as soon as you talk about adding radars and guided weapons to planes that’s a whole new level of development.

It is so deeply rooted in my brain that I don’t think of IL-2, the aircraft anymore…
But yeah, you’re right, they should drop it.

I was just reading the Stormbirds article, and I must have missed it (even in this thread, probably!) but the “skip time on route” option sounds like the old “jump to the action” key from MiG Alley way back when (or whatever that old Rowan’s Korea sim was called).

That’s a good feature!

Yep, still one the greatest combat flight sims ever made
Honestly, all they need to do is get the rights to MA, update the graphics in the mission planner and campaign engine and they will have one heck of a Korean war sim ready to go.

Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe, Red Baron 1/2/3D, European Air War and Strike Fighters among others all had that “skip to next waypoint” or “skip to contact” feature.

Il-2’s time compression doesn’t compress as much as it says it does (maybe 2x but 8x is definitely not 8x) so just skipping instead of going faster is a much better idea because there’s less work for the CPU to do.

When flight sims become people sims. Cool touch, IMHO.

Hey, what’s that B-29 doing over there?

Oops, wrong sim.

Il-2 engine does crashes and damage so well.

At least you will be able to get out of the aircraft once you are on the ground now.

The walking around needs some work though. The actions are not quite smooth yet.

great! we can climb back to cockpit, and we can run.

I hope that the missions will now starts out of the cockpit, that would be just perfect … like scramble with running to the aircraft etc.

TBH since it’s a flight sim, I’d be more than happy to just have that…

In DCS would be quite a game changer. Imagine getting picked up by a SAR Huey after an ejection?

In IL-2 Great Battles you’re switched to external view when bailing out in VR, which breaks immersion for me. I hope they change this in Korea…

I like how, since the cockpits aren’t clickable anyway, they’ve modelled the pilot this time. That was one of the most immersion breaking things about Great Battles
