New Tank Sim: Gunner, HEAT, PC!

Which half? the front or the back

So, I owned a half of an SBLim-2 for several years. Someone I knew was looking for a partner to split the cost of importing one in a crate. So, $12,000 or so later, I owned half of a two seater.

I worked on it for a number of years, MiGs are wonderful in that regard, but my partner didn’t put in ANY effort. It kind of languished and then the dipstick decided to try his luck in the crypto world, lost a boatload of cash, and since he was desperate? He bought out my share for full ownership of an incomplete aircraft.

He tried to dazzle me with the usual get-rich-quick schpeil, thinking he could leverage a 60 year old trainer jet in pieces, so I just bowed out and got my money back.

I think you made the right choice by the sound of it. Nothing worse than an even split of labour or money in a partnership.

Still, its a damn cool thing to have owned!

Yeah, I don’t regret it one bit and, some day, I’ll have a warbird of my own.

I have had the absolutely wonderful benefit of having been raised by an accountant. I’m a lot more well insulated against stupid money schemes than most folks so the moment he brought up making ‘money’ off of what amounts to an aluminum cylinder with a really angry hairdryer powering it?

More red flags than May Day for me.

It’s probably easier in the US, but down under here (Australia) a group imported three MiG-15s, one of which was put on a post, and operated the remaining two for a few years at airshows and for joy flights
until they became impossible to keep flying and were replaced in those roles by L-39s.

I believe at least two are still in the country, but I don’t think they fly any more.

As I understand it, Aussie CASA is fairly reasonable when it comes to operations of warbirds like that. The UK CAA is silly, stating that an EE Lightning is beyond the capabilities of a trained private airman, but Spitfires, Mustangs, and the like are A-Ok.

As someone who has flown piston and turbine aircraft, that just mystifies me.

Heck, an RAF mechanic flew it once!

It seems to run much better than it did before. Higher FPS and no bogging down when things get busy. I like the infantry, conscripts popping out of holes to stuff an RPG-7 down the tailpipe are a major threat.

To quote an instructor from ROTC when we went up to hood to play armored cav.

“It’s a f-----g armored taxi not a f-----g teddy bear, stop hugging it and spread out!”

Great pic!
