Very cool…
got annoyed with russian troops play whack-a-mole with the Coax … judicious use of a HEAT round from an M1
MEDIC!
He is now know as the vanpire LeSplat.
Would a squishy human even trigger the HEAT fuse?
Not that it would be less deadly if it just went through…
I was thinking the same.
105mm HEAT had a piezoelectric crystal in the nose that when it was crushed by the impact would generate the current for the detonator. It was behind a steel cap, so my guess would be no! It was known as a PIBD (Point Initiated Base Detonating) configuration. And I sometimes amaze even myself that I can still remember bits of ‘trivia’ like that after all these years.
But applying the benefit of the doubt (it looks like it might have hit the AK), then possibly… But the guy standing next to him would also be toast.
Depends on if he’s wearing a nose ring.
But either way - he wouldn’t mind.
Think it detonated on his ak but as @Harry_Bumcrack and @komemiute said would it have enough resistance to set the main charge off
AI says:
[blah blah snipped]
In conclusion:
• The 105mm HEAT fuze (e.g., PIBD type) requires a significant instantaneous impact acceleration to activate, generally at least tens of thousands of g-forces.
• This corresponds to rapid deceleration on impact with armor or a hard surface.
• Specific technical values are often proprietary or classified, but the activation is designed to occur only upon real impact to ensure reliable detonation and safety in handling. This estimate aligns with typical artillery fuze design principles and impact fuze engineering practices.
So given the safety margins, my guess would be an AK or wedding ring will not yet trigger the fuse. Ten thousands of G’s needs to be a really heavy and hard object.
Anybody got experience with shooting soft targets, like cars or washing machines?
I can’t ever take any answers at face value - plus what it wrote is so generic it hurts.
That said I remember in Black Hawk down an RPG got stuck, unexploded, inside a guy after penetrating the truck door… so definitely there’s a certain level of force necessary to trigger that fuse.
There has been numerous RPG7 rounds removed from torsos, undetonated. So that tracks
Found this…

Or have the worlds worst case of tinnitus ![]()
Not sure about the contact fuse they use
Also side note in the same series of videos about rpgs one of these guys had a bad accident
VIEWER WARNING
He survived but it’s pretty graphic
Wow okay that was interesting- I thought he would get worse wounds though, but very glad he didn’t.
Yes, but it gave me the idea that there’s compromise with safety. Which you probably all had in your head already, but I did not. Never handled ammo.
My mind goes this way when thinking about man vs bomb:
Love that movie… and the sequel too.
Well a VW Kombi actually - old car bodies from wrecking yards were ‘scattered’ about the range as targets.
Definitely will detonate a 105mm HEAT round.
