Probably SoCs with multiple GPU cores and integrated (like AMDs infinity) cache, like some fruit named company is pushing.
I think he’s doing something wrong, or there’s a problem with his computer. I have a 2080ti and I’m getting much better frames than his.
I’m thinking I’ll wait until 40xx series until replacing my 1080Ti now. I’ll update the rest of the rig, probably…just let this GPU craziness subside some first.
RTX 3090s back in stock at Amazon, LOL!
Actually, my wife and I have been contemplating buying a used golf cart to keep up with the Jones’ instead.
I’ve been soldiering on with my 2070 (non-Super) since release and I don’t think I’ll be changing it out till 2022.
That said, it’s still great at 1080p where my monitor is so while I’d like a 3070 I’m not worrying about it. Maybe the 4070…
It will get a little better in 2022 i suppose. There are a lot of compounding factors coming together that contribute to the current situation. Shortage of silicon is one, enormous demand due to Covid, the crypto-boom, automotive demand, etc.
If crypto blows up like it did last time and the energy costs eat up the return from mining, you’ll at least see the used card market return to somewhat normal.
While not really the most powerful, I’ve found this card… EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 XC GAMING, Grafikkarte 3x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI 2.1 (alternate.de)
It shreds my 980Ti… Gosh, how do I tell my wife?
In non-raytracing, it is very comparable to a GTX 1080 Ti.
Which I upgraded to from a 980 Ti a few months back. And I can tell you, this is definitely good enough for a pleasant VR experience in DCS.
So if you can get a good deal on a 1080Ti, that would be just as good for DCS. Or RTX 2080. Whereas for the RTX 3060, you’re competing against Zoomers wanting to play Cyberpunk and Minecraft RTX.
Though over here, older cards went for almost that price used, so it’s definitely a good deal. Especially when you factor in the much lower power consumption.
Hey @Freak what headset are you using with your 3060? I currently rock a 1080ti and am on the fence about taking it to VR… Also, I would not want to buy a lesser headset only to want to buy another, better one in months…
I have a 1080 Ti… guess I should have been clearer. But my point is, rasterized performance is the same.
I have a Samsung Odyssey, same resolution as Vive Pro and close or equal to Rift S.
If you are considering a Reverb, (G1 or G2) I’d say go for it. Whenever you upgrade your GPU you will be able to get more clarity but even with the resolution I’m rendering (around 2500x2500) you will have much less screen door effect.
Also, cockpit sims are awesome in VR. DCS and Elite especially.
I would be bored flying DCS in 2D now.
DO IT!
I have a plan. I can gather some screenshots of Marktplaats (Dutch Ebay) showing people bidding €550 for GTX 1080 Ti.
Then we make a spreadsheet to calculate the electricity bill savings of an RTX 3060 vs GTX 1080 Ti based on TDP. You’ll basically be earning money after the first year!
Do you think that would work?
EDIT: the market is worse than I thought. The 550 was from a while back. Now I see bids of €700 on used, years old 1080Ti’s
Maybe these cards will be have anti-mining capabilities… (one can hope)
Mining is just one aspect, there is a high demand from people like us that is the main culprit as well as production issues.
