Seems the 3080 I ordered back in september might go EOL before they manage to deliver. I called the shop, and they offered… f-all. I could pony up the difference for a different unit or sit and wait and see what happens.
So what do you guys think? Give those buggers another 600 euros and finally finish the PC I started to build last summer? Or wait it out, see if things get better?
I bought a reference RX6800XT from someone who is at best a trader, but probably a scalper.
The reference AMD RX6000 cards can be bought from AMD directly at Thursdays, if you are lucky. I can help you with resources if you want to try to get one in that first minute they are available.
If you are unlucky, like me, the prices scalpers are able to ask for these cards at Marktplaats are crashing, current asking price is only 850 euros.
Waiting is always a reasonable option, but if you want to replace that 1070 this helicopter summer, I can recommend getting a reference RX6800XT. It is much better value for money than anything else in the high end segment right now.
Wow, thanks for that generous offer man! I do want to see what the RTX thing is all about in Cyberpunk and such, so I’m quite set on the green team. Still. Going to dig into some tests and reviews, see what’s what. Mighty tempted.
Ehh I think I may have miscommunicated here, I have only one RX6800XT, no backup GPU, and no intention of selling it.
I can help you to find the scripts/Discord server/etc to have the best chance you can have at snagging a 6800XT or the less desired (and thus more chance to get) 6900XT from AMD directly at MSRP
FYI, nowinstock.net has begun sending me alerts on 3000 series GPUs at Amazon US. I just checked and the 3080 ASUS TUF Gaming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 OC Edition is in stock for around $1900 US. Prices below for 3090 from questionable resellers.
I can wholeheartedly agree with this. My girlfriend bought a used RX580 4GB. It worked fine at first, then the fans started to freak out to max speed randomly while temperatures seemed fine. She replaced the fan, even tried a custom fan mod, but nothing worked.
Then a few weeks later, the card would just quit in the middle of gaming. The last few weeks she had to put the fan profile to ridiculous speeds and noise to keep it from failing too often.
Ended up getting a 3x more performant RX6700XT from AMD directly because in the range between RX580/GTX1070 and that, there was nothing available that was not used or ridiculously overpriced.
And at some point, we tried to get a used RX480 working but couldn’t get the regular non-mining BIOS to work on it.
Avoid used video cards if they are models that are used for mining. AMD RX4* and RX5*, and Nvidia RTX3000
Seen shops bundle a PSU with the GPU, thatmight work for you. 3080 prices might drop further i the coming weeks… I would never take a 3090, not unless I had all other needs in the world covered. The 3080ti on the other hand…
And to think, not all too long ago I found any 1000euro gpu utterly exorbitant!
For a 3080Ti I’d recommend the Corsair RM850x to power it. Very decently priced, great efficiency and fully modular.
There is also the non-x version. It is newer but has Taiwanese manufactured capacitors instead of Japanese and it has a lesser quality fan.
