MSFS has pretty seamless Multiplayer - I think people just forget about it or don’t think it will work. I’ve really enjoyed a couple of group flights with @BeachAV8R (before we lost him to the BitOrtho market) and @Fridge before - they worked well.
…speaking of which:
So I better speed-up learning the DCS MiG-21 if I want to enjoy machin’ 2 over the White House
I have a bit of a mental stumbling block over military aircraft in MSFS (or I guess civilian ones in DCS). It pains me far too much not to be able to shoot or bomb with something that is made to do that. In my head I don’t even see DCS and MSFS as that related, in that they aren’t a dog / cat pairing, but more an Aardvark and a Casio Watch. When people try to do a versus with them I’m thinking, ‘But the Aardvark can’t even tell the time!?’ and wondering what on earth I’m missing.
Luckily I am not going to enforce my world view on this when the day comes I can control you all - so rest easy and continue to enjoy Mach Loops.
I agree.
I’ve taken to carrying an anteater around instead of a watch but I’m not sure if the pros outweigh the cons. The anteater weighs more and I find it inconvenient to have a pocketful of ants with me at all times in case the anteater gets hungry. And - like in the case of the aardvark, the anteater doesn’t seem to be remotely interested in telling the time.
Hmmm. Maybe we could do something like that. I’ll be home Tomorrow through the 31st. It would be a great way to finish the trip. I think all finishers should be included if they can make it.
Ah, wish I could. It appears that I’m flying out to Hawaii of all places over the next couple of days.
Since this will be the first time that I have flown there (that I wasn’t being dragged behind a tanker) it will be a bit Christmas Trek, Part Deux.
Well, at least it ain’t Bent Armpit, North Dakota, state motto:
Which is where I usually get sent!
But I’d pay good money to see the rest of you all lined up on that Piper Cub ramp they have down there in Port Stanley.
Edit: My apologies to those people from ND. It’s a very scenic state, but I just couldn’t resist that joke!
Ha, I just flew out to Kona yesterday afternoon, spent 4 hours on the ground and airlined home. I’m sat at PHX now waiting for my connection to Austin.
Kind of rough out on the tracks right now.

Overall recap of my trip
Already looking forward to next years trip!
Hot Damn! That’s a whirlwind trip.
Congrats and welcome to the bar. Someone may need to do a beer run soon!
Nice to see another Piper!
Interesting, there’s no taper in the Cherokee wings (compared to the Arrow). Wonder how that feels in flight. More stable?
Christmas Eve arrived and still in Brazil … time for some flying!
We take off from Salvador up north and go to Rio De Janeiro next. The plane chosen is the Longitude again.
Climbing up to 40k feet, we see a lower flying passenger jet pass by.
Hugging the coast line the journey continues southward.
Somehow FS2020 decides to crash. It’s now the third crash on two legs, something’s definitely not right here.
We continue the travel before the descend into Rio starts. The terrain has some nice features, namely the many hills.
Maybe I’m too low already, but these hills are high. I wouldn’t have expected so many hills and even mountains close to the coast in Rio, though maybe photos could have told me so…
Finally, Rio de Janeiro in my sights!
Some sight seeing
A landing attempt at Jacarepagua, which I recognize by the Formula One race track - raced there some years ago virtually in Automobilista!
Unfortunately my landing came in too fast and I departed into a building, ouch.
Next leg is then from Jacarepagua to Sao Paulo.
Scenic departure from Rio de Janeiro area:
Following the coast line further south.
Suddenly weather builds up, but no danger whatsoever.
Enough fuel left for this short trio,
Forest forever!
Wondering if the lake is artificial or natural.
Seems it’s a dam!
Approach over Sao Paulo to a small airfield.
This time I land, but take to long to settle on the runway, so I enter the woods beyond the runway.
Crash Pilot skills: check.
Cheers,
TeTeT
small world, for such big birds ! congrats @weaponz248 !
I kept sightseeing to much along the road, still having VFR blast in southern Argentina and Chile
. will make it before New Year hopefully, so Happy Holidays and keep the beer warm donw there in Port Stanley !
That certainly doesn’t look like Stanley Merry Christmas from here in Texas!
That was Part Deux. PHLI for 36 hours.
The tracks were blissfully calm, but the landing was pure MSFS!
Glad things calmed down. 123.45 was busy with Airline pilots trying to find flight levels with better rides, but there was nothing in the 30’s. Some were even dropping down into the mid 20’s because it was so rough. I guess they brought plenty of fuel with them. .
Merry Christmas from Germany, frohe Weihnachten!
The trek to Port Stanley continues, this time from Sao Paulo to Curitiba. Again I remember Curitiba from playing Automobilista and racing there. The plane of choice is again the King Air, perfectly suitable for this rather short leg.
Leaving the city of Sao Paulo beyond us, where we spent the Christmas holiday virtually.
I guess I have a weakness for the hilly and forested Brazilian landscape there, at least I’m using the external camera ever so often.
Fuel check, we’re actually a tanker right now, 70nm from Curitiba.
Out of a sudden I see the runway, but I’m still high and fast.
As some Christmas activities are lingering, I decide to pull through and attempt to land. Landing is done, but the brakes are way to weak. Ok, I was way too fast and too late with my touchdown. Where are the wires and hook for an arrested landing when you need them?
From now on I probably will go with the larger international airports, as my landing on 3 short runways in Brazil had exactly zero success…
Having the week off I plan to continue these short legs through South America and make it to Port Stanley at least for New Year’s Eve.
Cheers,
TeTeT
I’m still in Brazil, this time from Curitiba to Porto Alegre.
Brings us 300 nm closer to the destination of Port Stanley!
The King Air is again the plane of choice.
Quickly the build up area of Curitiba is left behind.
The mix of argicultural and wooded hills determines the landscape southwards.
Soon the outskirts of Porto Alegre appear below the plane.
A fateful screenshot. I reduced the throttle during active pause (fatally) and crashed right away when resuming before the engine spooled up again.
Rince and repeat, this time to the parking somewhere. Though I still have no idea where to find my precise parking spot, I just stop by close by other aircraft.
Cheers,
TeTeT
Getting closer! I still have to wonder what Asobo was thinking when they designed Active Pause.
