I bought a ticket for the full week, arranged camping, and… decided to stay home. Five legs in a little red bipe was too recent a memory.
I’m thinking of going this year. I even booked a hotel room. I was planning to do one day at Oshkosh and a couple up at the Off road racing event in Lena, just north of Green Bay.
I’m far from physically fit and I don’t know if I can do all that walking (even considering the shuttles). My heart is potentially making promises that my body can’t keep. My legs die on me at a normal airshow and this is an Uber Air Show (UAS).
I haven’t reached my decision point yet, but am trending “meh”
@saghen, it’s worth the day even if you never leave the main display ramp. However, even that would probably entail traveling a mile or two throughout the day.
Gosh saghen, I hate to hear that. I escorted my father-in-law in 2009, who was in his late 80s. We took our time, rode the shuttle when able, and got pretty much all of it in over two days. The highlight was strolling through the vintage aircraft and warbird parking.
The A-380 Captain was an EAA member and really put on a show with the big girl. She was surprisingly agile, in a Dumbo sort of way.
At one point he really got my hopes up.
Embarrassing to admit you’re more out of shape than an 80 yo.
Do you guys just sit on the grass or just stand for hours?
If i were to bring a carryable chair and small backpack, still seems like a lot to carry for hours.
Nice photos!
We walked slowly, sat when able. I kept him hydrated with lemonade and tea. As soon as I thought that Tom couldn’t take another step, a golf cart would show up, a bench would miraculously appear, or he’d see an airplane from his youth. He was whipped pretty good at the end of both days, but nothing that a cold beer and a cheeseburger couldn’t cure.
Don’t forget the bratwurst and famous Wisconsin cheese curds!
How about a foldable 3 wheeler with cargo space for chair?
Nice Fisk arrival video in an Extra 300. He gets his clearance at around 13:33 in the video, if you want to skip a long listen to the controllers directing and thinning the heard.
The arrival and other info is in this FAA NOTAM.

That is Rob Dumovich. A good friend of mine. I have beat him! (I’ve also lost to him.)
The Phantom II sticker on the back of his helmet is awesome. I’m guessing former USAF?
Did you grade him a 2 wire?
Strictly civilian. He’s rapidly building his aerobatic training and ferrying business into quite a successful venture. He’ is also very active in social media. Good guy!
Eff it…we’ll do it live.
Decided to go, will be there on Friday. Chipwich guilted me into going.
@Chaz what are the must sees?
Definitely make the trek out to the sea plane base. Usually shuttles on the south end of the airport that will take you out there. A great place for lunch.
Everything!!! In my opinion, the warbird section is the most impressive. It blew me away. Rows and rows of P-51s, F4Us, B-25s, DC-3s… Axis fighters as well. I spent several hours there between my 2 days there. I will post more pictures later today.
Bummer I’m not going today. I will have missed you and @RedBravo65. Would’ve been great to meet ya"ll.
Great to hear saghen and I think that you picked a good day weather wise. Looks like no precip and a high of 75 F according to MyRadar.
As previously mentioned, strolling through the warbirds is incredible, and I like to do the same in vintage parking. You’ll probably see more classic planes from the 30s and 40s than you imagined existed.
Did a U2 arrive yesterday?
Daily schedule. Warbirds, Patty Wagstaff, Grumman Cats, and US Navy Legacy on today.
For the rest of us… Bring up the Warbird tower webcam and look at all of those B-25s! Unless they’ve moved it, I don’t see any Mustangs or other fighters in Warbird parking. It’s like they are massing somewhere for an arrival. Would be epic.
Saw it (and heard it!) on Wedneaday doing a demo. But not yesterday (Thursday) unless I completely missed it.
Hey saghen, I’ve had a busy day, but just checked the webcam and see a Mossie on the B-25 row parked next to a B-26. Were you able to see it arrive and did it have a flyby? Hope that you held up well today.
Boy, today was tiring. Luckily, I had a chair and could stop when I wanted. It was nice there was some actual benches and stuff to sit on too. I don’t feel too bad at the moment. I was hating life at the time. I like the shuttles they have going on. I would not have survived without them. The real test is tomorrow when the muscles tighten up and hurt. I brought the Biofreeze and Ibuprofen. Now I get to see for two more days out in the sun watching off road truck racing. ugh.
No, i didn’t see the Mossie. I went down that row reasonably early today. Maybe it wasn’t there when I went back. They did a lot of warbird flybys, but I didn’t hear that one called out. Maybe @RedBravo65 has better info.
I’ll post photos later.
